Today has been a very good news day for the Jazz.

Quin Snyder is the new head coach of the Jazz.

An interview with DeMarre Carroll after this season.

Q. How do you personally assess your growth as a player?

A. I think I did really well. This is like the first year – I have to give a shout out to coach Quin (Snyder) – this is the first year a coach really worked with me on my footwork, my shot, spent time with me. That’s a credit to coach Quin. That shows me that he cares about me as a person, cares about me career. I think I’m headed in the right direction. I feel like a rookie. I finally got to play and do what I do. There is a lot of room for growth for me. I’m just trying to get better.

Aaron Gordon is coming in for a draft workout tomorrow.

The main knock on A. Gordon is his jump-shot, see where I am going with this?

I hope Gordon comes in and shoots the lights out. Quinn says this is my guy and the Jazz pick him at 5.

Not really. You could make the same argument with every other player. Quin was a PG at Duke and the biggest knock on Smart has been his shooting. Can you imagine how great it will be having a former PG work with Smart (or Exum)? Wow!

Besides, it's the role of the ASSISTANT coaches and player development coaches to work with the players.

Two words. Ettore Messina. Get it done. Would love to see him whip those young pups into shape. Getting Messina would be huge for Kanter's development IMO.

Yup. Snyder will be forbidden from doing so.

I get the sarcasm in your post, but I also want to point out (in a very serious way) that the Junkyard Dog's endorsement of Snyder makes me very hopeful that he will - in fact - be heavily involved in the development of our young guys. He may not spend the majority of his time doing so, but he seems to be a pretty smart guy. I'm hoping that will rub off on the BBIQ of the Jazz players.

Of the players projected in our range, A. Gordon is said to have the highest BBIQ. Here's to hoping Quin demands him like Ty wanted Trey.

No, but as a HC you have a TON of other responsibilities. You have to delegate. Look, as much as I LOVE certain aspects of jobs I have been promoted from, I just don't have the time to do those same tasks anymore. I often have to concentrate on bigger picture items and let the minutiae be dissected by others.

While Quin is working on the game plan, his assistants will be the ones staying after practice to work individually with the players. Sure, Quin might stop by and offer a tip or give a player a pat on the butt, but he'll work less with each player.

True. But he'll also know what to look for from his development guys...

You know what else would be cool? Dennis Schroeder.

He sucked last year, but man, that potential. Maybe Quin likes him, and maybe he could be had for a bag of chips.

Orangello, I'm looking at you, sir.

If he is good at developing a player's shot, then I really hope the Jazz get either Smart or Gordon. Either of those guys with a reliable shot is in the tier with Wiggins/Parker/Embid.
