This Is What I want To See From Jazz Players

Earl Watson could’ve been anywhere. His hometown of Kansas City, Kan. His second home of Los Angeles. Europe. A private island. Wherever millionaires who are paid to play a game go when the regular season ends and the second season begins. Instead, Watson spent last week with the Jazz in Orlando, Fla. Unable to play. Not officially in uniform. But watching, laughing and hanging with Utah’s Summer League team, wearing a gray Jazz practice T-shirt and long basketball shorts as if coaches Scott Layden, Sidney Lowe and Jeff Hornacek would soon call his name. Salt Lake Tribune

That is the loyalty and dedication to the team I like to see.

Props Watson, props.

Yeah, I guess he has to *** kiss his way to the 2nd string PG spot, only way he can get it over Tinsley.

I was honestly one of Watson's biggest fans, up until he pulled that stupid "if I knew of this earlier I'd ask to be traded" stupidity after Tinskey began to grab his minutes.

It's a funny situation, because both backup-points are extremely likeable, great veteran-presences, but offer two completely different styles of play. How Tyrone divvies up their minutes will be interesting to see. People forget that Watson was playing better than Harris for good stretches of the season last year, and kinda trailed off towards the end.

But from what we saw at the end of last season, Tinsley > Watson. Man, if ony we could somehow combine both players into one....

It was more of Harris playing worse than Watson than it was Watson playing better than Harris, if that makes sense.

I agree, but you still can't take away some of his performances. The 4th quarter of that Lakers game instantly comes to mind.

Meh, the whole appeal of Watson was his toughness and team unity vibes, he kind of threw that all away for me with his statements. He just seems fake to me now.

I wish I had the patience to go through his early season tweets when him and Harris were sharing minutes and he tweeted something along the lines "We don't care who gets minutes, our PG rotation is strong".

I think Watson wants to coach someday so it makes sense that he stick around during the off season. Unfortunately, I think the Watson/Tinsley spot could become an issue especially if Tinsley gets the nod over Watson. I like Earl Watson but he can shoot. If Watson had a nice stroke he would have been a starter in this league. I just don't know if he is going to like being the third string if Tinsley beats him out. They both have issues but Tinsley runs the offense better than Earl does. Him being at summer league is nice but I don't think it is a sign of his eternal love for the Jazz.

The only way Watson can really win me back is if he is the 3rd string PG for most of the season and doesn't complain about it.

The difference between Earl and Tinsley is that Earl produces by virtue of determination and hustle, while Tinsley produces because he actually has talent. So, I think in the right situations both can contribute. The trick for Corbin is to pick the right spots to use them.

This will all be moot when that jazz trade for Jimmer.

*shudder*

Beat me to the punch, my thoughts exactly.

Yep, maybe he heard the rumors about Hornacek and though there would be an opening on the coaching staff.

Given Watson's past reputation as a class act, maybe last season he just let his competitiveness get the best of him. And these guys are fighting for roster spots as their careers wind down. Perhaps showing up at summer league is his way of showing he's sorry about what happened last season and wants to demonstrate he's a team player. It will be interesting, though, to see what unfolds with Watson and Tinsley. Who knows? Mo may only play 30 mins and you could give Watson and Tinsley 9 mins each. What is likely, is that each of them will miss 10-15 games over the course of the season.

They can live and hang out where they want off season, I dont care. Just give it your all during the season and show up ready to go. Its kind of a bit much for us to think we can demand how and where they need to live outside of the season. As long as they are a pro and come to training camp ready to go.
