What's new

Today is the day?

The next coach is obvious guys... its.............................................................Alex Jensen.. now let us all let out a collective "duh"

Hollins WON'T be the next coach.....and here's why:

Hollins was fired because he was fighting management. The Grizz went very analytics/stats based (they hired Hollinger). Lionel Hollins is an old school coach and their philosophies weren't matching.

Dennis and Zanick are very into analytic's. So the styles again don't match up.

So Memphis fires Hollins and goes analytical and they have what to show for it? I like the whole analytics thing to point out glaring problems, but when we don't understand enough basketball to know how and why certain numbers are reflected the way they are, or to wrongfully conflate correlation with causation, we're going to have some problems.

A great second half of the season when Gasol came back.

Reason I heard for his firing is that the Grizzlies failed to advance deep enough into the playoffs. He was a good regular season coach, but Memphis simply didn't achieve enough post-season. I'm not sure analytics had much to do with it. Hollins had a veteran roster; it wasn't like he was sitting certain players and playing others due to his "old-school" beliefs and not their +/- rankings, etc.

I think analytics come into play more from a personnel standpoint - and that is in the arena of Lindsey and Zanic, not the next head coach. Coaches coach; GM's put together the teams.

Hollins has done a great job developing players. That isn't debatable.

Basically, what happened was he didn't want to trade Gay, and made it known. Then, during practice, John Hollingsworth came down and started pulling players out of practice and ran his own practice. Hollins didn't like that either and made it known.

Then he was fired.

Blame on both sides. Hollins should have kept his mouth shut, but management should have stayed out of practice.

The analytics thing is blown out of proportion.

Uh, Western Conference finals. If he was fired for lack of playoff success, Grizzly management is on drugs because nobody outside of that organization expected them to make the Finals coming out of the West.

I wonder if they could get stockton to coach?? He's been a little more visible with helping out the team.. He likes to coach our pg's and give them tips when asked...Imagine those matchups when he coaches against horny...or that little sh** Mark Jackson.. would be cool subplots.

I know, right? The longer this goes on, the more you start to wonder if there was a last minute change of heart....

Corbin will be back. Might move an assistant around, but Corbin will be back on a one year 'prove it' deal with a team option for remaining years.

This would be a terrible move imo, and not necessarily for the same reason people that hate Corbin's coaching would say.

Based on some comments from players, I think it's best to get a new HC, but no matter the coach you get it better be for more than one year.
