Trade Deadline ... A Couple of Ideas

This is From David Locke on Twitter, which means it probably doesn't mean anything.

"Gordon Hayward's agent Mark Bartelstein rumored by @ESPNSteinLine to be target of Cleveland Cavaliers to run front office"

I like trade #1, but I don't think Charlotte would give up a first-rounder for a possible rental of Marvin Williams and JLIII.

If Marvin gets them into the playoffs that would be the 2nd time in their franchise history. I'd think that would be important to them.

With the trade deadline right around the corner, I thought we could use a thread to toss around trade ideas using the ESPN NBA trade machine, and then saying why we think the trade benefits each team.

Trade Idea #1:

Marvin Williams and John Lucas (or similarly priced player) for Charlotte's expiring Ben Gordon contract and the Detroit Piston's pick they own.
https://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=p7umrch

Charlotte does it because they are desperate to get into the playoffs this year. They signed Al to a huge contract, and are looking to win now. They know Al won't be a good player for the length of his contract, and they're tired of constantly being in a rebuild. Marvin Williams can play the 3, or the 4 for them. He's played with Big Al before, and can add a defensive and 3 pt threat to the team. If everything works out, they sign Marvin to a larger deal in the offseason and let JLIII walk.

Utah does it because Ben Gordon is an expiring contract. Although Marvin has flourished, he isn't a natural stretch 4 like KLove or Ryan Anderson. He's a good player, but not sure he's the stretch 4 of the future. We are in asset accumulation mode, and in desperate need of that #1 guy. Marvin is a known commodity who is playing above his averages because he's in a contract year on a bad team, therefore we shouldn't read too much into what he's doing (but should let Charlotte). That Detroit pick, the GSW pick, and our own pick give us more leverage come draft night (don't think there will be much wiggle room in early lottery, but maybe Detroit and GSW could get us a better late lottery pick).

Trade Idea #2

Admittedly, this one's kind of crazy for both sides.

Trey Burke, Gordon Hayward, Brandon Rush and the GSW pick to the Celtics for Rajon Rondo and their first rounder this year.
https://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ks9rkaz

Boston does it because of the chemistry they know is there. Trey Burke's childhood best bud is Jared Sullinger, and as you know, Gordon Hayward is Brad Stevens' pride and joy. Brandon Rush was a quality player at one time, and should his knee ever fully heal (and he has an offseason to shed the injury weight), he could be a good 3&D for them.

The Jazz do it because they'd be getting a legit All Star - ring holding - veteran PG who is an incredible facilitator/defender, and a lottery pick that could help them grab another potential star. They're letting two of their young starters go, but the potential reward is high.

Trade Idea #3 (highly unlikely)

Marvin, Kanter, and the GSW pick for Kevin Love.
https://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=n2ank9l

Minnesota does it because they are fearful they won't be able to keep Kevin Love after not getting in the playoffs this year. He's openly criticized his teammates before. They get Kanter (who may yet turn into a star), Marvin Williams who is a solid rotation player who can hit the 3's and defend, the GSW pick (which may end up in the lottery with warriors being in the 8th seed right now), and more ping pong balls for their own pick.

Utah does it because it's Kevin Love: a real stretch 4 to play alongside Favors and Gobert. Our tank has gone awry anyways, so getting a true star now would be great. It would probably take some time to figure out the chemistry, and by the time that happened the season would be over, and our draft stock very similar to what it is now (still in the lottery, but very little hope for top 3 pick).

Thoughts? Trade ideas of your own? Discuss.

Don't quit your day job. Those other GM'S would laugh at you before they hung up the phone on you except maybe the Utah Boston trade but they would want those players for Rondo only and wouldn't throw in a draft pick

Hopefully Corbin is gone next year, but I don't really believe that. So then I'll just say that Rondo is a veteran who's won a championship (he's gotta love that). Rondo is surly, but maybe that's what our group of pushovers need!

How much would we have to spend in Rondo to keep him here do you think? Rondo should get back to his old self right? I feel like that should factor in.

The Jazz take on the contracts of Prince and Gordon and give their 2014 2nd round pick to Charlotte, in return they receive the Memphis' first-round 2014 pick and charlotte's first-round 2015 pick top 10 protected and Toronto's 2016 2nd round draft pick and Boston's 2016 2nd draft pick trip both via Memphis!!!

Memphis revives MW and Pargo to help out with Conley's injury, they also get Portland's 2014 first round pick via Charlotte (this allows them to trade their pick to us)

Charlotte receives RJ and Rush to help with playoff run.

Then trade Beidrens for Perkins and Dallas' 2014 first round pick!

another idea. New Orleans GM wants to win now and make the playoffs (even though that is next to impossible given where they are). With an injured Jrue, Tyreke, and Ryan Anderson, life's been hard for their new look team.

SO... https://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=km329yj

Marvin Williams, Ian Clark, and Diante Garrett for Ryan Anderson

Utah does it because Ryan anderson is a real stretch 4. New Orleans does it because they like tweener guards (Clark), they are in desperate need of a PG (Roberts and Rivers aren't cutting it), and they need another big in the absence of Ryan Anderson (Marvin is stretch 4 lite).

Could we be so lucky? Could New Orleans be so desperate that they kid themselves into thinking they'll make the playoffs with this trade? (I don't think so, but thinking up these scenarios is fun).

I like it.

I like it.

Yes, because it's ridiculously in favor of the Jazz.
Rush isn't going to help ANYONE make the playoffs. This is the 2014 version we're talking about; the one who looks old and slow and hasn't regained his shooting touch.
Jefferson is WAY overpriced for his production. Marvin has good value as a player, but again, at a high salary.

Hate to disappoint but every single "rumors" site talks about a glut of sellers in the market and not many buyers, especially when it comes to trading this year's pick.

Utah is not going to be able to make a deal. We already got our value out of RW, Biedrins and Rush: 2 firsts from GS. Teams just don't need expirings at this trad deadline as only a few are into the tax territory - and they don't care.
