I bet Dame wants out now. https://www.yahoo.com/news/trail-blazers-interviewed-becky-hammon-130846820.html
Dame wanted Billups, then didn’t like the backlash he got for not knowing Billups issues, then wanted to blame the organization during the first time in his career he got a lot of backlash. Surprisingly Windhorst, in the same podcast where he said Wade is worried about Donovan wanting to stay here, and who is a huge rumor starter, said he didn’t feel comfortable saying Dame would ask out yet. It’s an interesting situation in Portland. I think Dame wants to win, I also don’t think his heart is sold on the idea of fighting his way out of Portland either though. If I had to bet, I’d probably guess Dame is in Portland next season, and possibly beyond. The opinions seem to vary drastically across the league on that situation. Windhorst not biting on the idea Dame will ask out was surprising to me though, he lives for that stuff. You know Dame wanted Billups, right?
It's a real crap storm up there right now. There is a reporter from the Oregonian, John Conzano, that isn't going to let this go. He has done an interview with Chauncey's victim. The GM also decided he would character impugn Becky Hammond claiming sources from the Spurs told him these tidbits and Pop is really POed right now. I'll be surprised if the GM survives and Dame is distancing himself from the entire mess quickly.Dame wanted Billups, then didn’t like the backlash he got for not knowing Billups issues, then wanted to blame the organization during the first time in his career he got a lot of backlash. There was an incident involving the Oregon State Football Team roughly twenty years ago with the same MO so this appears to be a really big deal in that area.I don’t know all the details. None of us do. But this was over 20 years ago iirc and no criminal charges were filed. I imagine for a reason. Yet Billups and Dame are gonna get raked through the mud by many of the same people who deified Bryant after his death. Both cases seem quite murky and therefore impossible for any real journalist to form a strong take one way or another. And yet they have and are.
I think it’s dumb they haven’t fired their GM yet. It really is a wild situation. Dame was absolutely involved in that hiring process and wants to act like he wasn’t because he doesn’t want the backlash over the issues with Billups. Their GM isn’t my favorite dude though tbh. Like Zach Harper said he thought Dame would ask for a trade, Windhorst said he didn’t think Dame was at a point he would ask for a trade. The truth is I think Dames looking for reasons to get out, but his loyalty just won’t let him do what it would take to force his way out. He doesn’t want to destroy his legacy in Portland, he truly does love and has invested a ton into that place. I can’t remember who mentioned it but they said no one (KD, Harden, AD) in his situation has been able to not sacrifice their character to force their way out or win a title, and Dame just doesn’t have sacrificing his character for a championship or to leave in him. Basically he would have to stray so far from the image he’s created and the person he actually is to get out, that he won’t do it.It's a real crap storm up there right now. Yeah, the reason is that people don't believe women and what few cases actually get reported, there are either no charges filed or if there are, it ends in acquittal after a process where the victim is treated like she's on trial.
I mean, Cosby just walked free "because" and you're imagining there was a good, valid reason charges weren't filed 20 years ago?
