Trey Lyles blocks Aaron Gordon

Should I have titled the thread;

Fat, nonathletic, soft, Trey Lyles blocks freak athlete, ultimate roleplayer/competitor Aar Gordon?

Thread title should be "Trey Lyles highlight reel up to this point in the season."

I thought he's made a few good passes, he's held up fine on defense other then vs Bosh.

The 3 to take the lead at the end of the 3rd quarter vs the Cavs was his best highlight this season so far IMO.

I haven't been able to watch all the games and haven't seen him play a lot. He has missed wide open shots that I have seen though. I always questioned taking him and don't have a ton of expectations for him. Hopefully he figures it out. We need him as I have no confidence in Booker to be consistent, Pleiss is useless, and Withey must have done something unimaginable to Snyder's dog that keeps him from getting a chance.

He really is getting a lot of open shots, but some of them aren't even close. Makes me wonder if it's just something mental cos surely snyder and co wouldn't be giving him the green light to shoot if he wasn't hitting them in practice. Or would they?

It's mental. He is a good shot. He may never overcome the bright lights, but he has always been able to shoot it.

When I evaluate rookies I try to look for one thing they do well to build on. With Lyles it has been extremely difficult to see why the Jazz drafted him. I know they were looking for a stretch 4 but Lyles seems miles away from actually being helpful. I will say this, I think he dribbles pretty well for a big guy.

He's unquestionably a good fit for Snyder's offense IMO. Especially if the plan is to run the shot clock down low on offense..

Lyles is the type of big who you can pass the ball to with a few seconds left on the clock, and he's got the potential to put it on the floor, shoot it or pass it(which is really the key[rarity]), plus he can set those up with fakes and footwork. He's got those type of real basketball player instincts, at prototype PF size, I presume this is why Phil Jackson was talking him up pre-draft..

It's unwise to think he'd be caught up to the speed of the NBA game with all that sort of stuff just yet...

The other bigs that the Jazz have on the roster who would be in his spot in the rotation, aren't players you'd ever think to trust to do such things, They're more limited. Anyone on the waiver wire with those skills will almost certainly be a liability on defense..

Can we stop with this myth that Lyles can shoot? Please, just quit. He shot below 15% from 3 in college. Him developing a consistent jumper is still a big IF.

When I watched him warm up when I went to the Rocky mountain review I was sitting at an angle so that I was directly behind him and I noticed that his release is jacked up.
He kind of flicks/twists his left hand a little and causes the shot to go astray.
His shot may just be broken and need fixing

It was also his only made shot of the season from farther than 5 feet away from the basket. He is now 1/17 on such shots.
