On another note we shouldn't be helping the Syrian rebels. I can see some arguments for it, but we've proven our involvement

Yea one of them being how the GOP has tried to stop anything from getting down. My glasses are not shaded just informed. You can pretend like my comment is bias but facts are that whatever the President has tried to accomplish the GOP has been against it. But it was a jab so I apologize if you're offended which it seems a few here were.

If some of the Taliban start talking about peace then they'll fracture into Taliban A, Taliban B, and so on, and start a whole new round of fighting. That's how these domination groups always work. See 1800's Mexico for example. They're not interested in mutual agreement on peace and working together. They want power and will forever fight for whatever nonsense reasons they've built up to support their clan as the ruling class.
All it says is that they are going to go sit down and negotiate. I am astounded that we are there at all. So yes I am pissed that Americans, and our friends, are dying over there. Damn right I am bitter! Has nothing to do with your R v. D world though.
I liked your first comment, but stoked has a good point as well. I'm particularly annoyed with the GOP's feet dragging though. Nothing's lower than purposefully trying to keep the economy in the crapper just to blame it on Obama in order to beat him. It's downright disgusting but they didn't care. Thought the voters would be dumb enough to fall for it.
I agree. I want no part of Syria. It is a no win for the US. Assad will never be an American ally and neither will the rebels.
Problems like the Arab Spring? Would that have happened without 9-11 and the U.S. response to it?
Egypt is less our friend now than they were before. Syria will not be our friend afterwards.
But are they going to be better off in the long run for their people? They don't have to be friends with us. They really have no reason to be. The U.S. has been very heavy handed throughout the Middle East since the end of WWII and we've backed mass-murdering dictators because it's expedient for our interests at that moment. I think they have every reason to hate us.
What good I hope may come from 9-11 and the Afghan and Iraq wars is that the people of the Middle East can take the power back. I've never met a regular working person who was more interested in destroying the U.S. than getting to and from work, supporting their family and living in relative peace.
The problem is that is not who is getting the power.

...well, the USA has done it before...twice! Atomic bombs during World War II. I'm sure the military big wigs are just dying to use those same weapons or newer models on someone!
