We Got Swindled by Sexton (And Eddie Zero Sucks)

Unless the team starts winning again, or they can't find a buyer for the vets that seems likely and probably the best route for the team.

As a neutral who just enjoys watching team basketball I would like to see him be used as a 6th man. He can be an efficient scorer and leading the second unit removes the shackles a bit in terms of having to get others involved. Put him next to a tall defensive PG or wing and it will help cover for some of his weaknesses. 17-18mil for a 6th man doesn't seem too outrageous. If you compare his numbers to somebody like Tyler Herro they are not a million miles apart and Tyler will be getting 10mil more per year.
A lot of my thing is if we are starting the team anew, we should try to aim for the more optimal team build strategies, like not having 6'1 guards as major pieces of your rotation.

Alot of points here are valid you can say constructive criticism. Which he can use to make himself better. We are grooming him to be Conley's successor right? Then there's alot of work to do. Mikes value is high right now and there's a possibility he'd get traded. When that happens the pg position will be up for grabs.

I think the likely outcome is that Sexton becomes the starter either this year or next year, we tank until then, then sell high on his value as he will have solid stats.
Sexton already had gaudy counting stats in Cleveland. Yet there was absolutely no market for him when the Cavs dangled him in the trade market, trying to "sell high".

The problem is that he's not a winning player, and the whole league knows it by now. Here's a good overview on why advanced stats absolutely hate this dude:

As I said earlier... as long as Sexton is starting and featured heavily in the offense, we'll be losing. I'll gladly eat my crow if I have to, but I have a sneaking suspicion it won't come to that. His negative effect on the play of the guys around him goes way beyond mere stats.

Good lord man no one is doubling down. We have critiques if Sexton. A good stretch of games doesn't erase those. We have given him credit for his good play.
No you have not… I see like one sexton post from the haters talking about how KO is pissed at him… even though he did a lot of great things the past few games.

I get it that they lost the last three but 2 are against really good teams on the road. The Pistons game sucked but not sure you can pin that loss on him. Y’all are just waiting for his next ****** game (everyone has em) to say “see he sucks”. It’s fine.

He’s improving… hopefully the coaching staff is less negative than the posters here. Even if he ends up in more of the bench scorer role… if he can add the playmaking he’s shown the last few games it makes him way more effective in that role.

Not sold he is being groomed for that tbh. I think he is just showing us next man up, and that he has playmaker ability, far exceeding the common fans perspectives.Maybe from bad critic takes on his role as a scorer in Cleveland I guess? smh
I saw him make plays and keep the offense going quite well when there were better sciring options around him in Cleveland than him. Although that was rare , and often he never was running the offense unless others were out. Problem was he rarely had better scoring options than him there. But he also is no 1st option everyone can see he is a 2 or even a 3rd option on a contender. Maybe if him and Marky can develop some p/r chems things will improve long term.
I wouldn't mind it, but my gut tells me he gets traded before he is the starting point guard here, because he is already much better at scoring and most teams including this one probably will setlle for that.

PS if you were my sponsor I’d prolly OD just to get away from your toxic ***.

My favorite story from his rookie season was when the disgruntled failure of a vet George Hill ,after being traded away from the Cavs, claimed he offerred to teach Sexton how to be a point guard, and Sexton laughed at him.
