What's new

We should not trade Al Jefferson. We should keep him.

Al isn't perfect, he is a work in progress. I think it's time everybody get over that he isn't Dwight Howard or Derrick Favors. He is what he is. In the grand scheme of things he is still a lot better than a lot of other big guys. He does have some positives to his game. Maybe one more off season and regular season together with his teamates will get him where we need him. His defense probably isn't fixable but if we have Derrick Favors in there to erase his mistakes maybe we won't notice, and he won't feel like such a drag on the team. He will feel like a positive because of his scoring ability.

More importantly than all that is we have Al right where we want him. Has anyone noticed how much he is all over Utah's nuts. What if he is willing to give a big bargain to stay here. Say 7-9 mil or so. Also since we have the upper hand we make him come off the bench and take less shots. What is he going to say, No? He seems pretty desperate to stay here don't he?

This way we have depth and another tool in our bag. Al can be useful. We have all seen some good stretches from him. Maybe just a little more fine tuning Jazz way he will develop into a solid player. Plus he has that below the rim game that might keep him healthy for a long period.

I really don't see him getting traded anyways. I believe Kevin O' Connor wants to see this thing through. I think he is hoping Al can improve by just getting smarter. Kevin wants to see how his bet turned out, so to speak. Im sure he would jump all over something that we were clearly getting the better deal. I don't think any team is going to offfer anything spectacular for him. In Kevin's latest interview he really emphasized that most our growth is going to have to come from within. " We got to get better from within in" he said a few times. And also stated that we were really young and he doesn't want to get any younger. So I don't see him trying to trade Jefferson for any picks either. Also Kevin O Connor has repeatedly said that he is just fine with bringing back all our bigs. It's up to coach to figure those things out. He always says.

I just figure we might as well start looking at the positives of the situation.

I'm not jumping to any conclusions am I?

Strong is the power of negative reps in this thread, yes.

I like the idea of at least not looking to trade Big Al right away. Maybe see how things go up to the trade deadline. Of course, the same thing happened in Boozer's last year here and Boozer didn't get traded during the season. One of the best things about Big Al is that he has been working with Kanter on his footwork. It's great to have veterans on your team that really go out of their way to help the youngsters. I will say that it's possible Big Al could sign for a bit less to stay with the Jazz, but I think there is a big difference in him wanting to stay with the Jazz and being desperate to stay with the Jazz. Also, I think it makes more sense to bring Millsap off the bench than Big Al.

My feelings on Jefferson are simple. What he brings to the table does not outweigh the things that he is lacking. He needs to me moved sooner rather than later, but for the right deal as well.
