What does OKC do?

Let's say that Kanter leaves. And Love signs with LA. The Lakers call and offer Randle and their pick for Westbrook. If you are OKC do you do that? Do you then turn around and offer Durrant to NY before he leaves as a FA next summer? That's gives you:

Mudiay, Russell, Randle, Ibaka, McGary, and Adams to build around. Plus, you probably get an extra in protected pick for LA and NY.

If you are OKC, do you go all Oakland Athletics and trade everyone before they leave on their own? Trade Westbrook for Julius Randle and a top 4 pick.
Trade Durrant to NY for a top 4 pick, Cleanthony Early and another unprotected pick?

What do you do? Or, do you hunker down, max out Kanter, and pray Westbrook and Durrant stay? But, if they leave, would you get anything better than two top 4 picks, Randle, another pick and Early?

Tough call.

If I'm LA, I go hard after Westbrook. Trade your pick and Randle for Westbrook. Then go after Love like crazy this summer. That gives you two superstars.

Also, if I'm NY, I'd want Durrant over the pick.

Anyways, my crazy thought of the night. If your OKC, do you Oakland A's your team, hoping to turn Westbrook and Durrant into three All Stars, or do you pray those two stay around?

Durant has made it public that he wants to play for 1 team his whole career.

He's an honest guy and I'd be inclined to believe him.

Also, LA can't even trade its pick this year, right? It could possibly owe its pick next year to the Sixers, so they can't trade this year's pick (I think).

Trading Westbrook for an unproven rookie coming off major surgery and a lottery pick sounds like a way to make Durant mad and have him not re-sign.

Yeah, this thread is probably a year early. It just hit me that two of the top 4 picks are going to great markets. I think Westbrook ends up in LA. Also, NYis close to Wash...

That being said, I still think Durrant goes to Miami to play with Bosh and Dragic. I don't think he and Westbrook can win in the West. And after Utah wins the NW division next year, Durrant sees the writing on the wall and bails to Miami. Then Westbrook bails to LA. OKC is left with Kanter. Lol.

You don't make any moves with Westbrook unless you've decided Durrant is leaving as a FA.

Also, OKC needs to not make the same mistake of trading stars away to the same conference.

Not only was the Harden trade incredibly dumb, it probably kept them from making the PO this year since Rockets probably still suck if they don't have Harden, opening a PO spot for teh Thunder. Trading Westbrook to LA would just make another playoff contender in the West. If you trade him, send him to the East.

Trading Harden was an amazingly stupid mistake. Simmons has covered it well. Trading Harden is the perfect example of stepping over dollars to pinch pennies. Especially with the cap jumping.

This would be a terrible plan by OKC.

They have a built in advantage over every team

Westbrook and Durant know that staying together is going to be the best plan for their career. They also have Ibaka. I doubt Westbrook and Durant will bail. OKC should play their hand this way and be all in on doing whatever it takes to keep Durant and Westbrook and plan on them staying too. You don't even think about trading them. If they leave then they leave. But you don't send them away. The goal is to win a championship. They will never be closer than they are now with two legit superstars. You gamble on that way before you gamble on guessing they were going to leave, trading them, and hoping you replace them with some unproven commodities. Hell no to that!

Hindsight is wonderful....

Even our very own KOC praised the trade when it happened.

The only people who thought the Harden trade was a good trade was Houston and OKC. OKC was CRAZY to trade Harden. Especially for what they got in return.

The funniest thing about that trade? Rumors were OKC wanted Kanter, and KOC said no. Then DL trades Kanter to OKC for NOTHING. KOC is just as dumb as OKC's GM in that move. I wouldn't value KOC's opinion on that trade. He **** the bed with that one.

We could have had Harden, DeMarre Carrol, Paul Millsap, Burks, Favors, Hayward...yikes. That was a worse move than AK's max deal...
