What If Tyrone Corbin wins Coach of the year

I just had a crazy thought what if Ty won coy this year after a miracle season from the jazz. Wouldn't that be the biggest slap in the face to Sloan. (Who I think should have his jersey hanging from the rafters)

COY often means a coach is unemployed after a couple more seasons. Sloan definitely should have won 2-3 awards during his tenure. Then again, the argument is that he had 2 HOF'ers and never won a title. He really needed to have several 60-win seasons and have 4-5 finals appearances. Not all that is on him, of course. John and Karl never had enough help. There was always a huge hole at one starting position and generally terrible players off the bench.

Corbin as COY would be a shock, but there is a chance Utah really surprises. Imagine if Okur comes back en fuego and Favors and Hayward really develop. Maybe Bell finds his shot again. Then the Jazz would be a SF away from being a very good team. And perhaps that SF turns out to be Williams who slides down to us at #3. Or maybe KOC signs a quality FA with part of the savings from AK's contract.

Personally, I think a Kanter-Jimmer draft is the most likely scenario. And I wouldn't be surprised to see a FA wing take AK's roster spot. Or maybe CJ + the GS pick at the deadline.

Harris-Watson-Jimmer
Hayward-Bell-(CJ)
CJ-?-Evans
Jefferson-Okur-Kanter
Millsap-Favors

What if Hayward is the next Reggie Miller? What if we draft Jimmer and the Hayward/Jimmer combo is what it takes to make it to the finals? What if Frank Layden didnt look like an obese version of a pale Kermit the Frog? What if...... What if..... What if..... Lets make a post about it!!!!!

the awards doesn mean anythng, kobe didnt get mvp even in the year he scored 80 points
and looking at the weird first ,second defensive teams, it seems like they dont matter a lot

Yeah, total BS. All yearly awards should be given on a singular game.

Bell and Memo will not be back, and Millsap is questionable. And I bet Utah throws in Evans to sweeten the pot in any deal

No it wouldn't.

Consider the following:
-Sloan never won it, but Frank Layden, Phil Johnson and Tom Nissalke did.
-Phil Jackson won 11 championships as a coach, yet won the award only once.
-Only once in the past 15 years has the winner of COY won the title.

The Coach of the Year award is a complete sham. It doesn't go to the best or most successful coach - but to the feel-good story of the year that the media and writers want to get behind. The best coaching performance of the decade may have been the job Sloan did in 2003-04 with alot of guys who literally absolutely nobody wanted, and the award went to the media darling Hubie (never thought I'd use "darling" and "Hubie" in the same sentence) and his Memphis team of lottery picks.

The award is such a joke, I think the only "slap in the face" would've been if the media got together during the past few seasons and tried to give Sloan the award that was long overdue. Corbin's a new coach so if Utah comes out of nowhere he has a good shot - but Sloan was a victim of his own consistent success.
