What or who would you give up for Durrant

Putting aside the fact that there is less than a twinkie's chance at a BYU coed party of Durrant ever signing with us, what would you be willing to give up to get him here. Let's look at 2 scenarios:

1. A short term rental. Trade for him now and have him until he is a free agent (I think that is 1 or 2 seasons right now).
2. He is willing to sign long term if we trade for him now.

What would you do?


I would take either deal. Adding Durrant to a budding Gobert and Favors would be unbelievable. I am afraid though that we would need to give up a lot. For either scenario I would be willing to part with anyone not named Gobert, Favors, and either Hood or Hayward. Personally I would protect Hood over Hayward, I think he has more potential. I would also part with any picks we have compiled at this point. I think we have the supporting cast that with Durrant we would be over the top and instantly title contenders.

Isn't he a FA in 2016?

Hoops Hype has him as a FA. Rumors already circulated last year that he would either re-sign with OKC or go to Washington, which is his hometown team.
 
Nothing.

Brooklyn and NYK are still suffering after giving up a bunch of assets to get a franchise player. Jazz can't afford to make a similar mistake.
 
I love this. KD isn't like Carmelo - he's been perfectly fine with being in a small market, and he's exceptionally loyal (which doesn't help us). But I don't know how far fetched the idea of getting Durant actually is. If we're willing to give up Hayward, who's value is pretty high, plus picks, plus I dunno but I think it's plausible. Worth exploring. The Jazz would finally have a go-to scorer surrounded by the fantastic cast of complementary players DL has amassed.

I agree with this. Our chances of winning a championship are better developing the talent we have.

This. If he is willing to resign here then you trade a lot for him. You wouldnt give up all your players but you would make anyone available outside of Gobert. Let them take a pick of any 2 players. Even if we gave up Favors and Hayward and some picks for Durant long term it would be worth it. A lineup of Exum, Hood, Durant, Booker and Gobert would be a really good team. You could look to improve the PF spot as well if needed or maybe Lyles develops into a starter.

If it is a rental or you are unsure then you dont give up any of the core players, Exum, Hood, Hayward, Favors or Gobert. But you give up some picks or lesser players. Jazz with a lineup of Exum, Hayward, Durant, Favors Gobert has a chance to win it all this year if we still have some depth coming off the bench like Booker, Hood, Pleiss and any 1 of our 20 pgs.

We can just sign him next year.

Never say never. It's a super long shot that he'd sign here, but why not, if we can show we are an up and coming great team?

What if the Jazz win the west this year? Or come in 2nd? It's not entirely inconceivable. If we build onto last year and have the same auccess, where our defense is elite, it's possible.

If that happens, why wouldn't Durant consider here? He seems like the type that is smart and just wants to win.


Out of all the big stars, I think he is the guy we have the best chance at. If any.

Some of this is far fetched but I agree with the idea here. The Jazz are a surprisingly good team that is only going to get better. The Jazz will have some wins this year that will really turn heads. If they make any noise in the playoffs then I believe that this is a legitimate landing spot for him. Imagine this line up next season:

Exum
Hayward
Durant
Favors
Gobert

Above average size/length at every position as well as above average defense for every position too. The remember that you can bring both Burks and Hood off the bench. I doubt that Washington could offer the same amount of talent 1-6 that the Jazz can. Durant would have a better shot of winning a title with Utah than with Washington.



Yes, there are a lot of assumptions in this post. Deal with it.
 
Karl Malone is tight with KD...just have the Mailman stay close with him during the season and build the relationship even stronger. We'll have to give Karl some official position with the Jazz so we can use that as a selling point.

Also, it won't be difficult to show KD that SLC has everything OKC has (small town feel, outstanding fan support, only major pro-sport in town, etc.) with the exception that it's a much nicer place to live with better scenery.

KD is the only NBA Superstar that fits the mold of what the Miller's want in a Utah Jazz player...hard worker, humble, get's involved with the community, doesn't get into trouble, good role model, etc.

If I knew we had durant on a long term contract then I would even give up gobert for him too

I'd would give up Gobert too, but man that would be hard. Anyone else on the Jazz it's an easy ya.

Gobert is my favorite player in the NBA.

I'm with ya. I do gobert for durant and then always be worried that I will regret it
