What's new

Whatever it takes to get a top 5 pick next year.

Just clearly speculating here as we don't know the rosters yet but I completely disagree about the Lakers. The only 1st round draft pick they have in the next 3 years is 2014 so if they need to rebuild it's now time to start. Their roster with Howard was swept in the first round which they reached due to Kobe's phenomenal play only. They are lottery without Dwight even if they do their best. Nash is dead and Pau is a broken toy. There is no incentive for them to make playoffs at all as it will just prolong agony. As of now 80% hey will tank hard and 20% they will pull out a magnificent Dwight trade.

I don't disagree with your comments either. Yes the Lakers could suck big time especially if they lose Howard. Losing Howard might just make Kobe say screw it I am done (along with his injury). WHo knows what Kobe will bring? So that leaves Nash and Gasol, two players who have something to prove. However, Nash is a shell of who he was so again I can see how the lottery is almost a given.

My point was if Howard comes back or if the Lakers get a sign and trade and get some good players, Kobe comes back and Nash is healthy then the Lakers are not going to be in the lottery. Beside the fact that teams with vets generally will not want to take they want to win. The Lakers always have the FA market to help them while teams like the Jazz have to use the draft more. No one knows for sure until the rosters are set and teams start playing.

Heck the Jazz young guys could surprise everyone and make the play offs. Many times when the young guys got minutes they outperformed our starters. I am sure as the season gets closer it will be easier to see which teams are our competition for the lottery and if the Jazz are lottery bound.

Would it be possible for the Jazz to S&T either Paul or Al (or Mo) for a high first round pick next year?

How is amnesty clause working? Can you amnesty the whole contract off the book at the end of a season or just the amount time left of the season after using it...?

The Jazz only have Hayward and Favors that they can use the amnesty provision on.

Nah I mean in general. If maybe Rose tears his ACL again midway thru next season, Bulls might consider to use amnesty on boozer and make a trade for Millsap as replacement. That would be a gr8 opportunity for the jazz to pick up talent if they resign Millsap but control his impact on winning games. I guess there's more scenarios similar to that on other teams who decide to make major changes. And if it's trade deadline will get Boozer's full salary off the tax and cap or just the remaining portion?

The Jazz need both Kanter and Favors to continue to improve, they need Burke to become a Top-8 PG, and they need to add an athletic wing scorer.

What I'm looking for is an SF who can get 10 rebounds, block 4 shots, fill the lanes and hit open jumpers.

If they can upgrade any existing position through next year's draft, they should try to do so.

In the future, people may look back and see that Gobert pick at #27 as a key component. That's an excellent value pick.

If our guys continue to improve and we can add Vonleh (or Poythress wakes up), I think we might have a contending team. Those would be decent Josh Smith type players.

If that doesn't happen, we could try to get Isaiah Austin and play him out on the floor like a modified Thurl Bailey, but it's not quite ideal.

Only way the Jazz get a top 5 pick next year is for the team to tank hard. No NBA in their right mind is going to trade a 2014 pick unless its lottery protected (at this point).

I'm good if they can get an extra pick that is 15 through 20. There will still be some great pieces available at that point.

Haven't read this thread, but don't we just need to go lean and play young guys for the whole year?

Nobody will give up an unprotected '14 pick.

We don't even have to be the worst team. Right around 5 or 6 will win the lottery this year.

Exactly.

It won't even look like a tank. Why?

Who do fans want to see playing next year?

- Trey Burke
- Favors
- Kanter
- Hayward
- Burks

So, giving these guys a heavy dose of minutes isn't going to be bad - the fans will actually cheer for it.

Exactly. You are brilliant kkk. Except I don't think Trey will play center

But the teams in the east play each other like 4 times to compete for worst record. The 25% chance on Wiggins is going to be a tougher, more fierce competition than 8th playoff spot there.

And we're buried in a very good WC. Jazz will struggle early. It takes time to build chemistry. Teams like Portland and Minnesota (Love and Rubio back) will improve. NOLA got an all-star. Sacramento now has some stability and should be much improved. Jazz may very well compete with Phoenix for worst record in the West with 25-28 victories. Of course the Lakers could also sink that low if Howard leaves and Kobe misses a ton of games.
