Taking a look at the Jazz current players under contract and where they are at with dollars spent the next few days might still be interesting.
Rudy Gobert --------- $22,741,573
Derrrick Favors ------ $18,000,000
Ricky Rubio ---------- $14,800,000
Joe Ingles ------------ $12,545,455
Alec Burks ----------- $11,536,515
Jae Crowder --------- $7,305,825
Dante Exum --------- $11,000,000
Thabo Sefolosha ---- $5,250,000
Jonas Jerebko ---- ($4,000,000)
Ekpe Udoh -------- ($3,360,000)
Donovan Mitchell -- $3,111,480
Grayson Allen ------- $2,076,960
Raul Neto ------------ $1,100,000
Tony Bradley -------- $1,679,520
Royce O'Neale ------ $1,378,242
------------------------$112,525,570
Jazz are at for the sake of the arguement $113,000,000 in salary with 13 players under contract. The Luxuxry tax line is sitting at $123,000,000. So the jazz are still 10 million below the luxury tax line. They still have a little over 7 million in non gaurenteed that they can either pick up or waive.
I would expect they Jazz to car a minimum of 14 players but probably the 15 that are allowed. They Jazz sill have the MLE and BAE still available.
Positions as I see them
Pg - Rubio, Exum, Neto
SG - Mitchell, o'neale, Allen, Burks
SF - Ingles, Sefalosha
PF - Favors, Crowder
C - Gobert, Bradley
I expect favors to take all the back up minutes behind Gobert (about 13 to 18 minutes) that means he should get about 12 to 18 minutes at PF. For this reason I see no purpose to have Udoh on the roster and Bradley should start to get a few minutes here and there to help his development. Cutting Udoh means 3.3 million will not count towards the cap.
With that said there should be about 30 to 35 minutes available at the PF spot. Crowder worked well but his shooting is still erractic to say the least. Sefalosha can get minutes here if needed.
I think the Jazz should waive Jerebko. Go out and make an offer for 5 to 7 million on a 1+1 to Nemanja Bjelica. They will still stay under the luxury tax and get one of the best shooting big men in the NBA. I wouldn't dismiss that fact the Bjelly and Rubio are good friends.
Sign Niang for around 1 mil
Pg - Rubio, Exum, Neto
SG - Mitchell, o'neale, Allen, Burks
SF - Ingles, Sefalosha, Niang
PF - Favors, Bjelica, Crowder
C - Gobert, Bradley
This would give the Jazz flexibility on line ups and keep them under the luxury tax
