What's Up with Oni

Guy hasn't sniffed the court in 3 games. Is he in the dog house for his scuffle with DedEx? Or does he report to the Stars on Monday?

I think the coaching staff likes Oni. Kidd is taking his spot on the active roster until they can get him up to speed.

Kidd is going to get dropped the moment they feel he can play NBA minutes.

Hopefully with all the young players they will get some time with the Stars instead of doing pine and turning to ashes.

This just in. Oni is on the Stars training camp roster along with the guys we cut including Howard. I think the Stars have to cut five players if homey math is correct. JWF and Brantley are on the Stars roster.

It would suck if Royce signed elsewhere; the fact we drafted Oni is good insurance.
Not happening. I think there is a legitimate possibility he's traded (he's kind of the only thing that resembles a draft pick/young player that are basically a liquid and valued asset), but the Jazz aren't letting him walk for nothing.

In the event we don't sign him I hope you're right, I really do.

I would be completely heartbroken if we lose Royce.

It would be awful. I think Snyder would be super sad as well; I feel like him and Royce have a special relationship.

Too bad Exum has shown nothing. If he did those two would probably fetch a great piece.

The season is young, so maybe he shows something for the first time.

:/

Cut him some slack right now he'd be a freshmen (in med school) and this is basically his rookie season.

Royce is going nowhere. Oni is not Royce insurance... he's a dude they are developing to play in the next year or two... nothing is up with Oni... likely spends much of the year in the G League unless we need him.

We have extension opportunities with him and he's restricted. He won't get something so crazy that we wouldn't match. We might not like what he gets but we'd match. If we put 4/40M up on his table in extension talks I'm like 90% sure he will take it and run. Even if he got something ridiculous like 4/60M I think we match and deal with the consequences later.

Why would the Jazz not have offered 4/40, though? Either the Jazz are suddenly low-balling players (despite having a penchant for overpaying them), or Royce wants the whole ****ing bag. I can't figure it out.

God damn it this is good.

Not sure... they may just want to see how he works with the starting lineup? They might be holding out because of injury risk. I just remember the George Hill discussion going right down to the deadline before they were dead. Ingles had a deadline so that makes sense. They also might be curious to see if they will have cap space (if Conley opted out) and they could in theory retain Royce and use cap space.

I don't think he will hit free agency... I'll just leave it at that.

You can only have 13 players active for a game. Thirteen played in the Kings blowout and Oni wasn't one of them so obviously he wasn't active. Not sure if they're rotating at all (is there a way to see who was active each game?) but at some point Oni seems likely to get a chance. It just has to be a game where they decide to make him active and they also have a chance to play the scrubs.
