It went both ways - I distinctly remember a game where Stockton and Payton were lighting each other up. Late in the game Stockton elbowed Payton hard in the throat. While Stockton was never afraid to go elbows up it was clear he didn't mean to hit him that hard and in the throat. On the next inbounds play, while Stockton didn't touch Payton or shake his hand you could tell by his body language that he was apologizing to Payton. Payton shook his head at Stockton. LOL - then they went back to lighting each other up.
