Would hornaceck turn this team in a playoff team? would crobain turn phx in a lats place team

phoenix is 6th place in the west at 16-10
jazz is last place in the west at 8-22

on paper in most peoples eyes jazz players > suns player.

does coaching make a difference.

discuss.

if jaz zand suns would swap HC and have a trraining camp what would happen

In spite of how much people love to hate Ty, the answer to this question needs to wait until Ty has had a non-Dleague point guard for the better part of a season. I love Horny and wish he were in Utah but the judgements on Ty and many comments about his not having a system etc are largely based upon a enormous gap in the skill at the PG. I am guessing that if Horny had started the year with Lucas, Tinsley, and Garrett as his PG's that his record would be much worse.

Difference between Jazz and Phoenix is Phoenix has 2 legit PG's on their team both with experience in the NBA. Jazz have 1/2 of an NBA pg to this point in the season (missed first 12 games due to injury), and he is a rookie.

To me, the difference is shooting. Modern "moneyball" GM's are placing a higher and higher importance on shooting. In particular, 3-point shooting. As a team, the Suns shoot 38% from 3, the Jazz shoot 33.8% from 3. The Suns take 25.3 3-pointers per game, the Jazz take 17.9.

The Suns never have less than 4 capable shooters on the floor, while the Jazz were using Favors and Kanter on the floor together for much of the season (which obviously doesn't work, hence starting Marvin).

To me, it's more about the composition of the team by the GM than the coaching. In addition, if we started the season WITH Trey, the league would have a much different view of the Jazz.

It's funny to contrast Ty and Jeff beyond just the winning record in post game interviews. Hornacek is never completely happy with his team's performance when they win a game. He will consistently point out something they didn't do well. Typically a quarter in which his team might have looked sluggish. Corbin on the other hand is practically giggling(exaggeration, I know) when his team just barely loses a game to a good team. He also doesn't point out something they could have done better in their wins. That never be content attitude has worked well so far for Hornacek and the Suns.

I think the team would be in a much better position with Horn at the helm. There are those I know, specifically KEK, who do not give Horn his dap and thinks the guy is talentless.

Great post. This is very accurate. The question that begs to be asked is if the jazz are behind the times again? I say again because Sloan was so reticent in guarding the three.

Possibly. They seem dedicated to this two bigs, plodding offense. It might not be the trend but that will make it that much more devastating if they can ever force their will onto the opponents. Lets see what Indiana has to say about this.
