Am I racist?

Maybe it's different in Canada, but have you spent much time on a reservation? They really do fulfill all stereotypes.

reservations are just as bad here, probably worse.

Also, the richest person I know is Indigenous. Does that fulfill your stereotype?

Stereotypes are contructed and supported by all segments of society. Used to belittle anyone different.

Edit: Yes racism is a very real problem. However I do not feel every little joke or comment needs debate or even rebuttal.

It does when the impacts of racism and stereotyping are very very real.

One has to take into consideration the person making the comment, the tone they said it in, the theme of the discussion and who they said it to. Not just what was said.

I agree with you that no one "earns" them though.

Not necessarily. Even if you don't mean it. your perpetuate it when you chime in with racist jokes.

I am selling something online. Big things, that need to be picked up in person. I have a set price and am getting a decent amount of interest.

Person A is wants me to hold it until 7 when they can get off work and come and get it. Has not mentioned price, just that they would like it. Normally I'd just say ok and hold it for them and tell everyone else to F off. The only "problem" is .... wait for it .... this person is of Mexican heritage. That's not really a problem in and of itself as Mexicans need washers and dryers as much as the next race. The problem lies in my past business dealings with Mexicans. I for some reason or another have done a fair amount of dealings with Mexicans via garage sales, stuff sold on KSL etc .... and every time they show up, conveniently forget how to speak English, try to shove half the agreed upon amount into my hand and try to get out and or away while I try and explain that's half or less than half of the price of the item and they cannot have said item until the total amount is in my hand. Its a pain in the ***.

Person B is a middle aged caucasian who has told me she would give me $400 cash and will come pick them up tonight. Now she contacted me second, but I'd rather deal with her as its almost a guarantee that it will be a simple transaction.

I am selling to person B. Am I a racist?
Beer, are you white?
If not, then you are not racist.
If you are white, then you are racist.

Most Indigenous People I know take offense to the term American Indian.

Right, because they create them in a position of power where no-one within their jurisdictions can propose the contrary. Stereotypes are the domination of one discourse at the expense of others. Typically this domination is explainable in a power/powerless scenario.

Stereotypes literally exist in every single human culture in huge numbers. Rich people/groups are just as stereotyped as the poor and marginalized. Also, stereotypes are obviously not purposely created. They are an example of a meme, and they spread organically through a culture. I know Marxist slogans are very appealing to 20-somethings, but you're seriously reaching here. ;)

Honduras driving is damn near post apocalyptic. Stunning.
Agreed.
(I was a passenger in Honduras on a long drive and I was scared as hell... also the road conditions were horrendous)

I think the reality is that it's somewhere in the middle, as with most things. I think you're reaching when you purely purport stereotypes as 'memes', and nothing else-- and never purposely created/exploited.

I love you dala but no. You just need to trust me here. While those 300 may be great, in general, they're ****ing awful.

Point to me the exact locus/loci in a typical "Asian"'s genome that explains your assumption of the Asian race being worse at driving.

If you don't think it's biological, then I would enjoy to hear your sociocultural justification behind what makes "Asians" (as broad of a term as there ever was) bad drivers.

Aren't some stereotypes positive in nature though?

So why do the powerful create positive stereotypes about those that they wish to dominate?
