Derrick Favors motor

I think everyone should be pleased with the development of Favors thus far. He's still only 23. He's not even going to hit his prime until about 27. He looks like he has taken huge strides this season. I'm very happy. We have two bigs who are long and can play defense. That's really hard to find. I see a much smarter player than he has been in the past too. He isn't getting those offensive foul calls all the time anymore. His shot is very reliable, and is only going to get better. And he's relatively cheap for what he brings. I see no reason to complain about Favors. He coming a long nicely. I think people were expecting a Dwight Howard type of player (the old Dwight), but he just not that kind of player, and it is probably better. He can actually shoot. He's more well rounded. Who cares that he isn't pulling down 14 rebounds a game. We don't need that from him.

All along Favors kept saying he preferred to be a PF. And the Jazz were trying to play him a lot at the 5. With Gobert in place, Derrick should be told he's going to play PF 35 mins/per. Of course, that will require Utah to get a quality 5 to back up Gobert. And that's not easy - or cheap - to do, unless we can draft one. I actually think getting another BIG is a BIG priority. For all Kanter wasn't, he WAS a 4/5. Even if Gobert were to get hurt, a Kanter/Favors lineup could hold down the fort. Or vice-versa: a Gobert/Kanter lineup would have been pretty good. I don't have the same fuzzy feeling about Favors/Booker. Maybe Pleiss or Tomic will be the answer. But I'm not holding my breath for either.

Going forward, I don't see Booker as anything other than a 4th big. This is his 5th year so he probably is what he is. Yes, he brings energy, but he can't shoot much outside the paint. He's developing a bit of a 3PT shot, but is still unreliable. And he's a terrible FT shooter. He could get 13-15 mins behind Favors. Or Jazz could find another rotation player to get 25 mins or so like Kanter was getting - a big, good shooting 4/5.

Stifle Tower going full retard.

Why is that? You don't think we need another big who can shoot? Booker can't. Look at his 5 games before the Milwaukee game. Booker was 9-33 (27%). And look at his shot charts. He's good around the paint, but doesn't have a lot of range beyond that. Do you really want him getting 30 mins as our 3rd big? Or should we re-sign Evans and call it a day?

PERHAPS Pleiss or Tomic will come over and be amazing. Like I said, I'm not holding my breath. I think Tomic is just using the Jazz to get a bigger contract offer where he is. And Pleiss barely plays.

So please, before saying I've gone full retard, give me a rotation that looks impressive. Favors and Gobert for 35 mins. each. What do we do with the other 26 at the 4/5? What do we do when one of them gets in foul trouble, or heaven forbid, misses a game or two or five during the season? Look at any other playoff team in the WC or the top ones in the EC. On almost EVERY one of them, Booker would be the 4th big.

I think Booker is a good 3rd big. Especially at his price. A guy that hustles that much and brings that much energy off of the bench is a great guy to bring off of the bench. Would it be nice to have somebody better? Absolutely. But I'm not sure how realistic that is.

You think we can be a playoff team with Booker playing 25+ mins per game, starting occasionally when/if Gobert or Favors misses a game and some scrub like Motum, Cooley, Jerrett, etc. as the 4th big? Perhaps. But I don't think we could ever hope to win 55 games and get homecourt.

Any that think he's soft is a hater.

untrue.
You can like a player while also believing that the player has faults/weaknesses to his game.

I think burks defense stinks.
I don't consider myself a Burks hater

Really liked the way Favors played the last two games. His defense alone made me eat my words about his motor.

Post over on RealGm Jazz section about favors defense since Gobert started. How Gobert is #1 and Favors is #7.

Did Booker bang your wife or something?

Nope. I just got tired of watching him bang shots off the rim and glass for five straight games. He's also shooting 43% on his FT's this month. I get it; he can dunk and pose. It fires up the crowd. Also has a nifty 5-ft hook. But that's not enough to play 25-30 mins/per. Jazz need to have a 4 with range to complement Gobert and Favors.

My point is he's not soft therefore there is no way u can think he's soft and not be a hater. It's plain to see he's not soft. It's not a logical thinking. I don't know how u can watch him play and say he's soft unless have something against him

I'd rather have perimeter players that can shoot. If a good shooting PF is available (they are few and far between), sure I'd take one, but I think Booker's energy is a need. You are way underselling Booker's impact on the team. He can be a 25 MPG player on a playoff team. He can start games in the regular season for a playoff team (did it last year for the Wizards). As far as Booker being a finished product, I think you are incredibly wrong. He has added a 3pt shot this year. It's not a great shot, but it's the very first year in his basketball career he is shooting 3's.

Different people have different opinions than you do I guess.

Someone can think favors is soft (whether you think they are right or wrong) and still love him

Just like I think burks defense is bad (whether right or wrong) and I still love him

Good post

Favors needs to shoot more.

When Gordon is not on fire, Favors should always be the 1st option. He is more effective than any guard on this team either.

But, in my opinion, he needs big experience time for the last few minutes for the 4th quarter. He isn't ready to take this burden for the last few minutes of a game. There he needs big improvement.
