Burks fully committed to the Jazz and getting better

Jazz don't nearly having enough offensive talent power in their starting unit (or team for that matter) to get to the next level. Burks return and the addition of another talented wing player and PF are essential.

We all have affection for Ingles and Booker; but these guys are cult hero's. They're not major pieces on playoff winning teams.

Gobert/Evans
Favors/Booker
Hayward/Hood/Ingles
Middleton(Matthews)/Burks/Millsap
Exum/Burke

Plus a draft pick is 13 players. Add a 3rd string PG and a final big and that's 15. And a low playoff seed. 6-8 imo.

Evans is your backup center?
He won't be on the team next season. It will be Pleiss, Tomic or a FA.

Also, to get Matthews or Middleton, we'd almost certainly have to renounce the option on Booker's contract AND our exceptions. Trevor would likely need to return for $2.5M or less (room MLE).

I think of a starting-5 of Exum, Matthews, Hayward, Favors & Gobert and I get stoked. That would be a very solid defense.

Good to hear that he is as actively involved as he can be. Also good to see him occasionaly behind the bench during games.

So crazy to think that the Jazz are improving this much and that Burks has been MIA.

I just hope this does not turn out to be the Memphis Grizzly situation of a few years ago when they were really good without Gay and people expected Gay to put them over the top but when he came back from injury, Gay just didn't fit

I love Burks but this team has an identity now. Core guys Hayward, Favors, Gobert are all good defenders, willing passers with high bball IQs. Gotta add compatible missing pieces. Believe it or not, Exum fits already even with his hideous offense now. Burks does not.

I think Alec is a late bloomer in most areas of his life and I think he will improve from a cerebral standpoint as time goes on. Remember, the frontal lope of a person, the part of the brain that governs decision making, does not fully develop for the average guy until he's 25. I think with Quin, time, and the right attitude, Burks could very well compliment the team, especially from an offensive standpoint.

Try it. I'll bet he fits. Then let us know on jazzfanz.

Burks and Burke can't start together.

Right now, it makes sense to start Exum next year & keep bringing Burke off the bench.

Burks is the offensive punch we need.... He did very well to fit into Quinn's system, the only thing he lacked was his constant driving, hence the shoulder, plus he has made it clear he wants to be in utah.

Next year is going to be fun!!!!

Agree. Exum can still go stand in the corner while Alec does what Dante SHOULD be doing - namely, taking it to the basket. Dante at LEAST needs to develop a reliable 3PT shot.

There's always got to be an antagonist to every story.

Burks is a major piece to the puzzle, hence the extension last summer. It is nice to read he's been around the squad pretty extensively despite his injury. Anyone know when he'll be allowed to go full-contact and start getting back into shape? I'm excited to see how he can fit in next year.

You know what an Uncle is? It does not require you to be married to obtain one.

An uncle (or aunt) in-law is someone who is married to your Aunt or Uncle.

Sorry, can you explain that one more time for me?

Agreed, though it shouldn't be a surprise being Burks tried to play through the shoulder injury AFTER he signed the extension. And he didn't play scared - he kept attacking the rim and playing hard. That shows a lot of character to me.

This isn't a knock on Burks but it did seem he attacked less this year then last year

We can hope that Alec will fit the system next year, but there is so far no direct evidence to think it is a great fit. So why not trade him for a better fit, a 3 and D guy? Build around your great strength = Rudy and Favors defense.
