Good Utah Restaurants

We lived on the corner of I and 9th Loved it but when we had kids and our room was upstairs and the kids rooms were downstairs it got to be a pain. We used to go to a place called the Pie Hole late as drunk food and it was awesome pizza. Theres nothing like that in Utah County and it sucks.

Damn, I used to live on I and 6th.

Nice area, I really miss the view of the valley we had off of our porch. I don't miss it sounding like there was someone in my house anytime the neighbors went outside to do anything. The first time they dumped all their beer bottles in the garbage can in between our houses I thought we were getting bombed or something. Humans were not supposed to live in houses that are 5 feet apart.

Some of my favorites:

Myung Ga (Korean)
Rusted Sun Pizzeria
Del Mar al Lago Cebicheria Peruana (High End Peruvian)
Eva (Small plates)
Wild Grapes (Bistro)
East West Connection (Vietnamese)
Tacos Don Rafa (on State & Sears)
Mandarin (Chinese in Bountiful)
Kathmandu (Indian)
Lone Star Taqueria
Spitz
Cafe Med

I haven't been to all the places on this list but the few of them I have are all really good IMHO, except Cafe Med. Maybe they've rebounded (used to be a favorite about 6-8 years ago, then took a nose dive). I'll just say We stopped in several years ago and...well maybe a little background, although my facts are fuzzy. From what I understand the original proprietor died and his kids took over. So my poor experience was from after the kids had taken over. Anyway, we go there to eat when my sister is in town because that was one of our top spots for going out to eat when she was visiting. It was beyond clear that the entire staff was eagerly awaiting a hook-up. They were far, far more concerned about why their hook-up was late than anything to do with the food or the service. The cook came out of the kitchen and instead of checking on the food and so forth was checking in on the status of the hook-up, but did a cursory and creepy round pretending to be checking on the food. The food that night was sub-par and the service was like hanging out with a bunch of tweekers. Haven't been back since. Maybe when their hook-up isn't late they can get down to business but that was one of the very worst experiences I've ever had in a restaurant.

Lone Star Taqueria is solid. I've been going there since the month they opened. Less since they were featured in Sunset magazine and are constantly slammed, but I still make an effort to go every once in a while.

I went to Del Mar al Lago for my birthday this year. Loved it. My wife and son weren't as into the cebiche as I was, but I really liked the cebiche. I told a Peruvian guy I worked with that they served Guinea Pig and he said he might have to give them a try.

I've had good and bad experiences at Eva.
