The Adjustment that Should be made but Won't

It isnt IF we have a possible HOF PG, it IS what is best for the team.
If a great SG and an above average PG are better for the team than a crap SG and a HOF PG, then it makes sense.
I agree with the original idea, but realise, as stated, it wont happen. I do think it would be a big boost. Watson and DWill would run people over.

So how about an average SG and HOF PG? Bring in CJ or Hayward over Bell, and you keep the HOF aspect and add an average aspect. I would not put Deron among the elite in the NBA as a SG. Above average? Sure. Watson is not necessarily above average PG on a consistent basis. I would have to say he is fairly average as PG go. He had a nice game and suddenly he is just a notch below Deron. Be realistic. So for the math.

HOF PG + Avg SG > Avg PG + Above Avg SG

or

DW + CJ or GH > CW + DW

As far as best for the team, right now best for the team is get Bell out of there however we need to. And it makes more sense to play one of our younger developing guys who is a natural 2 than the play an aging Watson (i.e. not really a long-term option) and Deron out of position.


But you are right that it won't happen, either way. Bell will play out the season averaging 26+ min per game while CJ gets sporadic time (which doesn't help his consistency issues) off the bench and Hayward, who showed signs of promise, gets nothing. And the Watson/Deron combo will get limited use, if much at all.
 
Funny, but I do not think everyone here failed to state why it won't happen. We all know it so well it goes unspoken: Sloan.
 
The way I see it we have multiple weaknesses in our lineups right now. We've already seen DWill and Watson together, and we definitely get a spark offensively. When its Price and Watson, our defense becomes quite pesky, and more effective and high-energy.
No question AK is a more consistant contributor at PF than at SF. The man is a terrible dribbler at SF; is there a slower SF in the NBA? Now at PF, he is quicker than most, and that gives opponents fits.
If we had a healthy Okur, I would use Okur and Jefferson together, bringing Millsap's high energy off the bench.
I also like Hayward starting at SG over Raja Bell. He is the future, so why not give him some experience now? Hayward's defense is really not near as bad as many of us thought, and Bell ain't exactly lightin' it up offensively...
 
It might work for a few games but teams will sooner or later figure out the weaknesses. We already are undersized in the frontcourt and now we will be undersized in the backcourt prompting big SGs of other teams to post up Deron and wear him down on a daily basis. Watson wont be guarded closely either.
I still think that if at Bell has to be sat down Hayward or Miles should be given a crack at that before we risk more by putting Deron in there. Deron already gets banged up enough playing PG.

I didn't really follow the entire argument, but it seems like last night's game had a little something for everyone here. Fes and the rooks played, D-Will at the 2, AK and Okur on the bench... it was a Jazzfanz trifecta!
