Why Tomic > Kanter

I wish I shared Dalamon's optimism; but why come over and play back-up minutes in the NBA when you can be the top dog in Spain. That was Raul Lopez' thinking - and that was 10 years ago. The quality of play and lifestyle for the players in Europe since then has only gotten better.

Who knows - I see the Euro is down to 1.06 and falling. Maybe he sees US money as a better return for his skills in the next couple of years (yes I'm grasping at straws)

Its more than just a "back up role". He will play a major part in what we do next year. He may not start, but he should get the same mins here as he would there.
The Jazz playing better as of late has to entice him more. He can be apart of a young exciting playoff hopeful team next year. He can be a leader on this team.
 
Winning right now is helping our cause to get him over here. I dont think he would want to come over and be apart of a losing/tanking team. Hopefully Jazz FO can show him that we are going to be a playoff team and he could be a major part of that.

Love him or hate him, he's inconsistent. Another mental case, another Andrei Kirilenko.

I loved me some AK47. Only Jazz Jersey I've payed money for. But he wasn't worth a max contract after his rookie scale. The only thing Kanter did better than AK in his third season(contract season) was play 2 more games(78 to 80). Kanter avg'd 4.2 less points, 1.5 less steals, 2.3 less blocks, .6 fewer rebounds, 6% lower FT% and Kanter had only two less shots per game.

NBA earning potential (even on his "rookie" contract) is much, much higher than he can make in Europe. If Tomic comes over and plays really, really well his first 3 years, the money he can make on his 2nd NBA contract (after the jump in salary cap) is ASTRONOMICAL compared to what he can make in Europe. If the Jazz want him, they offer him the clearest opportunity to reach that. The fact that Quin Snyder reportedly wants him here makes the possibility that he jumps to the U.S. much more likely.

Timing couldn't be better to make it happen. For that reason, I think it will. Hope it will. I think Tomic would replace Kanter's role on the team better than any other free agent (for a fraction of the cost) or rookie (who will take years to develop.) The window for success is open. The Jazz need to maximize the quality of the bench to aspire for playoff success.

I believe he could make up to mid level money on his first contract. If i remember correctly with Mirotic that was the max he could make. Might be wrong though. :):p
 
Oh I hoped it would show someone actually playing defense. Kanter makes layups too.

Because it is word-for-word restatement of the news that surfaced earlier this month and we concluded that it is to some extent a speculation and possibly a way for Tomic to drive up his value when resigning new contract with Barcelona.
