BMore Riots?

While the action may be unwise, expecting the blacks of Baltimore to react differently is simply moronic. Personally I'm just surprised that they haven't gone off murdering white people.

Just unwise? Perhaps morally and legally wrong as well? Perhaps just wrong in general?

So here in this thread we have people justifying the violent riots because the cops did a bad thing, and saying the riots are happening because people don't have enough money.

If money is the only thing keeping people from killing and looting, then we have a major problem. A people problem.
A societal problem. That people think doing stuff like this will change anything is horrifically stupid. Lashing out at innocent people does not solve anything. Lashing out at the person who wronged you also rarely solves anything.

Perhaps people should be taking more personal responsibility. Yes, we have a problem with our police. They do not have enough disciplinary action coming back at them. They are being too violent, too militaristic. That does not mean that people should be having riots!!

Both groups are in the wrong. How anybody could defend either right now is beyond me, but play on and keep on blaming others for what's going on instead of the individuals that are pulling off all of this ********.

I agree with most of this.

I would only say as a general observation that among those crowing loudest that others should 'take personal responsibility' (e.g., I'm looking at you social conservatives), I see the same amount of blame deflection, responsibility avoidance, passing the buck, etc. as I see among any other group. 'Take personal responsibility' is a noble and true sentiment, and we all wish people would do it more, but it's also become a tired, overwrought cliche typically used to avoid looking deeper and trying to understand why people might behave/react as they do (e.g., they often have very legitimate grievances), even if we all agree that the behavior/reaction is wrong.

You can be such an extreme optimist sometimes. How often do we hear about the "1%" anymore? I swear, it's almost gone...

There are definitely times and places where Freedom should have no inherent respect for Law.

Exactly, I imagine with is pretty close to the mantra adopted by most right wing militias.

I'm not trying to be flippant, I actually agree with the sentiment, but there's clearly some ill-defined line out there where legitimate lack of respect for the law crosses over into illegitimate respect for the law.

We all draw the line at different places, depending on the situation.

I, for example, consider Edward Snowden a whistleblower hero, not a traitor.

I do think that rioting in Baltimore crosses the line, BUT I certainly try to understand the pent up frustration and rage that underlies it (even accounting the high probability that much of the rioting is being done by opportunistic mayhem lovers and crooks), although I honestly don't think that a white, middle or upper class type that hasn't experienced life within a poor urban ghetto has much of a frame of reference to truly understand it. Thus, the trite and superficial rush to dismiss the entire thing without any concept that there is SOMETHING important underlying it.

if you protest do it right, do it with respect. do it well dressed and well behaved. command respect and people will threat you with respect.
are these people to poor to afford a suit. well i dont think so some of em seem to be wearing pretty expensive air jordans.

jesus f'n christ, just who protests wearing a suit?

Yeah race is the only reason possible that blacks are arrested for marijuana more than whites. It couldn't be the other crimes they are also committing or that they're smoking it on street corners or in alleyways.

If true, I imagine there might be many explanations for this. How about blacks are more likely to be arrested for marijuana than white? Just like blacks are more likely to be arrested than white for a whole passle of other crap.

I'm sure these people would feel good knowing they are now being judged by their clothes rather than the colour of their skin.

PROGRESS!

**** yeah....

you completely ignore my well dressed comment.
i dont see people dressed in serious attire! are they protesting for fun or a casual event or for a serious event.

wouldn't politicians and society take them more serious, if they are dressed good enough they seperate themselves from looters and arsonist.

not exactly judged by their clothes. but the way you dress, is a consequence of the way you behave!

and yes judging people by there behaviour is normal and relevant
