My (hopefully) realistic off-season for the Utah Jazz

The Jazz need some finishing touches on the roster and this off-season is perfect opportunity to do it. The Jazz have both the assets and the cap space to make some noise in trades and/or free agency.

My favorite draft night trade idea thus far:

Detroit trades: #8+ Brandon Jennings
Utah trades: #12+Trey Burke+OKC 2018+non-guaranteed contracts(Grant Jerrett, Jack Cooley, Chris Johnson)

Detroit just signed with Arn Tellem to be one of their chief executives and that would likely rise their profile as a free agents destination so they'd need any free cap space they can get. They got Reggie Jackson and SVG seems to love him and will resign him. That leaves no place for Jennings who is returning from a horrible injury and has only 1 year on his deal, which makes his contract at best a neutral value. They also add the local hero Burke to their team and they have 2 cheap years of his services as a back up, while figuring out if he will work out long-term or not. They also add a future pick for their trouble.

For the Jazz - we move up to #8 and we get our final piece(Hezonja, Porzingis, Johnson - whoever is left/our management wants). We get a backup/relief valve for Exum at the PG spot for 1 year, while not hindering us long term with the unknowns of his injury situation.

Option 1: We pick Hezonja or Stanley Johnson. If Hezonja is available I'd pick him. (Lets say that it's realistic that he's available here).

Free agency:
-offer 4x4M to Cory Joseph(do you think it's realistic he'd accept?) to be our long term backup option.
-offer 3x5M to Ante Tomic or Tibor Pleiss(there is so much BS surrounding Tomic, I don't even know if that's realistic or not), if not, we'd need a back up center either in the draft or in free agency(Koufos?).
-resign Joe Ingles to min or thereabout

The roster next year:
PG: Dante Exum/Brandon Jennings/Cory Joseph
SG: Mario Hezonja/Alec Burks/Elijah Millsap
SF: Gordon Hayward/Rodney Hood/Joe Ingles
PF: Derrick Favors/Trevor Booker
C: Rudy Gobert/Ante Tomic(Tibor Pleiss, Kosta Koufos)

Option 2: stemming from the draft-night trade(we pick Porzingis):

Draft night: Trade into late first round(using both our 2nds or 1 second and cash - Rudy Gobert style, with a team that is above the limit and doesn't want to give guaranteed money to a rookie - Cleveland?) and pick up RJ Hunter, Justin Anderson or Rashad Vaughn(whoever is available)

Free agency:
-offer 4x4M to Cory Joseph to be our long term backup option.

SG: Alec Burks/RJ Hunter/Elijah Millsap
SF: Gordon Hayward/Rodney Hood/Joe Ingles
PF: Derrick Favors/Kristaps Porzingis/Trevor Booker
C: Rudy Gobert/Ante Tomic(Tibor Pleiss, Kosta Koufos)

Why would we sign Joseph if we have Bryce Cotton? Would Jennings really accept being a backup? Jennings at 8 and 8.3 for the next two years could be a good value if he buys in.

Bottom line I think you have the workings of a possible trade-- if the Jazz will sign off on dealing with Jennings' prima donna attitude. Though not rocking the boat and messing with our chemistry has a lot of appeal too.

I think if Hezonja is really available I do the trade. I am sold on his potential. I still have serious doubts on Porzingas.

Jennings has only 1 year on his contract, not 2. We treat him as an expiring contract, who can also probably help alleviate the pressure on Exum, when he struggles this season. I think Joseph is better than Cotton. I think he has legit backup skills and I'd be very happy if he signs for that much.

I don't think your plan is bad... i don't think CJ will come to be a 3rd stringer and I think it is a better role for Bryce Cotton (who I like). I like CJ, but he could get that similar deal from a lot of teams that may have more playing time available.

I think I want to bring in Pleiss more than Tomic... He should be cheaper and his role is going to be small. Playing center when Gobert is out.

After watching the playoffs I'm convinced with need a big wing who can play the 4 and shoot. If we didn't get Stanley Johnson I might go after Jared Dudley. Not sure Milwaukee will be able to keep him with resigning Middleton, having Jabari come back, and needing time for the Freak. It would depend on price and years, but he'd be a good leader as well. Very vocal.

I would do both of those trades btw...

I expect Detroit to keep the pick and draft Johnson. They're desperately thin at SG/SF - Pope is their only halfway decent young player at those positions (Prince & Butler are old).

Ow,ow, I want to try....

Trey Burke for Nik Stauskus.
Jazz trade 12 to Milwaukee for #17, Damien Ingles and a right to swap draft picks once in the next three seasons.
Jazz draft: Portis at 17.
Timothy Luwawue at 42, and Alpha Kabba at #54
Trade a GS pick to Indy for George hill.
Tomic tells his wife and or girlfriend to get over it and signs a three year deal with the Jazz.

Serve Free Pepsi and beer at the RMR.
Sweep the Vegas summer league, Portis named MVP after averaging 18/15/5 with 2.5 blocks and 3's per game, and Dante has espn top 10 drives and slam in each of the 5 games he plays in.

I also want my boss to give me the Jody Gennesy treatment, --4 weeks paid time off to rediscover myself.

I hope this is all realistic enough.

Damn, are mine really that far-fetched? :(

I think I think this team better

Exum, Beverly, Cotton
Hayward, Burks, Millsap
Barnes, Hood, Ingles
Favors, Lee
Gobert, Turner, Pleiss

As a fellow Wolverine, I don't want to see Burke traded, but I think this is a balanced and good deal, especially if it means getting Stanley Johnson. Jennings could have 6th man of the year potential with the Jazz. I'd like to give Grant Jarrett a shot before shipping him off again though.

I'd do Trey for Stauskus in heartbeat. alot of people have labeled Stauskus as a bust already, but I think he could still be good. That's a trade that works for both teams. I like it.

This is a good point.

Stiches? What say you?

They still get Oubre or Booker at 12 and add a future first and a cheap back up PG in return. They also clean up space to recruit a good/great FA at the SG/SF spot or possibly an all-star type of player... For example rumor is that Arn Tellem would give Detroit a chance to land Aldridge, since he's been his agent and close friend since Aldridge entered the league.

When you remove the complications, the choice becomes: #8 and returning from Achilles tear Jennings or #12 + Burke + future pick + chance to land Aldridge(or some other of the high profile clients Tellem had).
