I really enjoyed this article, and thought it was pretty thought provoking. Curious what the conservatives, liberals, and everything in-between think of it.

One quote I really enjoyed:
To my mind, conservatism is gratitude. Conservatives tend to begin from gratitude for what is good and what works in our society and then strive to build on it, while liberals tend to begin from outrage at what is bad and broken and seek to uproot it.

That quote right there is the epitome of why I can't be a conservative. They start form "Hey, this worked for me. Thank the Lord!" and focus on their existence instead of looking at any damage that exists. Whether or not the damage exists(or heaven forbid their fault) doesn't even come into their minds.

And when anyone tries to show them there's an issue, they continue turning a blind eye until others are outraged over it.

Ahh, so that's why they so often want to arrest people or deny people civil liberties for violating that which offends their moral code. Because of gratitude.

Definitions:

American conservative- Cheerleader for the Republican Party

American liberal-Cheerleader for the Democratic Party

The "mandate" is a perfect example of this. Proposed by Gingrich and the Republicans in the nineties, liberals thought it was a sell out to the insurance industry. The mandate resurfaces 20 years later this time proposed by Obama and the Dems. Guess who is mad about it.

Conservatives tend to begin from gratitude for what is good and what works in our society and then strive to keep it for themselves, while liberals tend to strive to figure out ways to expand it and share it with others.

that would be my definition in a nutshell
(oversimplified, of course!)
