It's really as simple as this: We don't need a power forward. We need a true center with a shooting touch to back up Rudy and a 3/4 with length and speed to back up Hayward. And yes, in this situation, where it appears the Jazz are trying to actually make some kind of run this coming season, you draft for need.

Utah was a 38 win team last season, haven't sniffed the playoffs yet, and can stand to add depth across the board. When the hell did they all of a sudden turn into a team that can skip steps and start drafting for need in order to make this "run" that you speak of?

I agree that we shouldn't be drafting for need, but disagree on not sniffing the playoffs. If Utah had traded for win now pieces instead of rebuilding pieces in the Kanter trade, they definitely had a good shot at playoffs.

Actually, Lyles was the perfect fit with Rudy and Derek. When Rudy sits, Derek slides to the 5 and becomes the modern NBA 5 -- a bigger, stronger Greene. Lyles comes in at the stretch 4 and gives us a whole new dimension.

Lol at all you freaking out. Get a damn grip.

Don't tell us what to do. I've never freaked out over a draft pick, so I'm due.

Because Lyles is a knock-down shooter from beyond the arc?
When Lyles comes in at the 4, Favors gets doubled inside and teams completely ignore Trey.

This is a complete lie by DL and QS. They've been saying we need shooters to stretch the floor. Derrick Favors and Trevor Booker have better range than Lyles. IF the Jazz want to compete, Lyles will ride the pine and HOPEFULLY develop into a serviceable PF in 2 years.

Yep, the guy who shot 4 of 27 from the college 3 point line sounds like the perfect fit at stretch 4. WTS are people smoking? Never in my life have I heard such claims about a player because his form "looks good". The ball has to actually go through the hoop before you can qualify as a shooter.

When they were one of the best teams in the league after the kanter trade.

He's only 19, same age as Dante, who also needs to add strength -- how many guys do you know at 19 are fully mature?

Calm down ... you were probably one of those guys who was ecstatic we drafted Trey. In any case, we need to see how this all plays out. He's only 19.

How many guys at 19 do we need for hell's sake? Hell let's just keep piling them up. We could probably add a few in trade, sign a few undrafted. Go all out.

I still hope they get something done in trade at some point. This is another "let's see if we can win in 2-3 years" move, and NOT what we need right now. I sure hope this guys shocks everyone and comes in and contributes right away, but not many players that are "only 19" and played out of position on a stacked team come in and take the world by storm.

Sample size. Silly of you to decide a 19 year old who took all of 27 3s will not be able to develop that part of his game. Even if he were 0-27, it would tell us very little about his future as a shooter.

Correction: before you can qualify as a maker. In limited minutes out of position he jacked up 27 3's while making 4...has all the hallmarks of a shooter/chucker.

Lol. I love this place.

Dr Jones!? Bust out the sedatives.

Lyles hit 25 of 40 3 pt attempts in his workout for the jazz.
The only draft review I can find so far gives the Jazz an A+ for the selection
