CANNOT be over-rated. Oh my goodness gracious it is hot here. At least, outside it is pretty warm (pushing 100) but inside, since the euros do not believe in air conditioning....it is also pushing 100! We had a party for our apartment building last night and at 10 pm it was 82 degrees in our apartment, and still 85 outside. It didn't drop below 80 in the house until around 3 am and we woke up this morning at 77 in the hallway, the coolest place in the apartment. Ugh. I think we are going to live in our car for the summer, since that has air conditioning. I will never take it for granted again.

cus its a waste of money to have airconditioning for 7 days a year :P the other days it is useless.

sweating like a pig over here

The funny thing is they all complain about the heat. And really it will end up being more than a month of real heat. Maybe 2. But no one has air conditioning. Even shopping centers and movie theaters don't. It's weird.

basically it is a heavy investment for a few days a year. maybe this year its 30.

last year it was maybe 4 or 5 days i though gee wish i had an airconditioning. today for me is not so bad.
i was sweating like a pig but just because i finished a 47 minute workout on a heavybag.

yesterday and the day ebfore yesterday i did wish i had an airconditionning.

but 1 thing i dont go into in the summer.

the publicbusses. holy crap its like a hotbox with sweaty people, makes me wanna puke and gives me migraine

Cant you just buy a cheap windown unit for a couple hundred bucks? Even if you only plug it in a few days a year thats worth it.

My house is 70 degrees, its nice. Central Air is a must in Utah.

We looked at getting a window unit but they are way more expensive than in the US. I bought several at work in Reno for 145 bucks each. I searched for the same specs here and the best I could find was over 300 euros.

I cant sleep in the heat, so that seems worth it to me for a good night rest.

It is becoming more and more of a deal each day.

And to dutch, yeah we each have an oscillating fan in our bedrooms. It isn't enough to push 85 degree air around. You still get sweaty and sticky for the sweat to evaporate to keep you somewhat cool.

Make one of these, I used one similar to this at burning man a couple years ago in 100 degree plus weather and it was really nice. Although mine was a solar powered fan that was kind of weak you could get a bigger fan to push more lots of air.

That's really cool. He had a video for a larger one as well.

I have everything I would need to do this, except a reliable source of ice. The freezers here are tiny. Might be a good excuse to get another refrigerator/freezer anyway. :)

My fiancee and I have a terrace house and all our windows face west. Also, the bedrooms are all on the top level of the three we have. Also, right now, the sun sets at 9:53 around here. It gets really hot in the afternoon. Like 90 of you Murican degrees in the actual house. I bought a "portable" AC unit for about 400 Murican. You're allegedly supposed to hook it up by building a whole complex panel under your window and whatnot, which also renders it not very portable.

I went ahead and simply opened the window and put the hose against the mosquito net then closed the window on the hose to hold it in place. You get 5-6 inches of space where the window is open and you apparently lose some of the cool air, but I find it's not really significant. I got our decent sized bedroom from 90 to 70 in just over an hour. It's a real life saver, as long as the noise doesn't bother you(I sleep like a log). And, since you don't permanently attach it to your window, you can just wheel the thing from room to room.

It's definitely worth it. It's not just about those days it's 90+ outside(we get maybe 5-10 of those a year here) but also the ones when it's 85 or 80. It's just nice not to wake up at all times drenched in sweat, and it's nice being able to actually go to work on a good night of sleep instead of spending hours tossing and turning from the heat and having to shower 5 times a day just to not smell like the basketball court at the Y.

I asked a Swiss relative why a mall in Zurich wasn't air-conditioned-- apparently Europeans consider them unhealthy, and a waste of power.

Never looked into their health.

I don't get it, Log. Are you in an interior apartment without windows? Window units are cheap and will chill the hell out of a house. I have one in my house currently because my AC is being a dickbutt and the coils refuse allmy cleaning methods. I still get 60's if I want it.
