Cooley

On SI.com there is an article where the Jazz front office is praising Jack Cooley to the hilt. I thought the guy was a decent DLeague player but an NBA stiff. Is this a ploy to get his trade value up to make him a throw in on a deal to make salaries match or is he going to be the next Joe Ingles for us? Interesting timing of the article too. The gist is that the Jazz are happy with their players right now and just want to develop them.

Never thought he was a stiff. He has pretty good mobility for his bulk. He is just undersized for a center.

How much would they raise his value by praising him and what caliber of player could we fetch as a result? My gut tells me that, if we're lucky, we may be able to pick up another D-Leaguer who's value is skyrocketing due to his team hyping him.

If he's hittin' 3s at a good rate, and continues rebounding, then he'll find a spot on an NBA roster.

I remember ECTYA (Enes CanTearYouApart) (did he ever change his name? One of my fav Turkish posters) was thrilled when the Jazz were interested in him. Apparently he dominated in the Turkish leagues, and was one of the best rebounders he ever saw in Turkey.

Cheap rebounding, solid team defense, and an automatic 8ft jump-shot/decent finishing skills could be enough to have him stick to this team as Rudy's back-up, if we don't pick up Pleiss (pls pick up Pleiss). I think I'd rather have Motum though.

The article made it sound like the Jazz wanted to make him a stretch 4 and Cooley said he hit 70% of his unguarded 3s in a recent practice.

I read it a few hours ago, so I might have forgotten, but I don't think this term appears in the article. Cooley would likely play C.

I like Cooley as a third center. I'd actually prefer him as a third PF. Either way, I do like the energy and toughness he brings to the team.

It's hard to argue about his numbers last night. He put in a solid performance. I thought he was by and far the Jazz best big.

Totally agree. Any Jazz fan that prefers Motum over him just doesn't know basketball - plain and simple. Cooley's ability to rebound on both ends and screen can't be overstated, and it looked like he was more mobile last night which bodes well for him being able to guard better. He did a good job on CJ Fair (who isn't an NBA player, but is a face-up guy who likes to put it on the floor).

The best thing Cooley does is he actually goes up and grabs rebounds with 2-hands. Most guys try to one hand everything and just go in half-way. Cooley charges into a space and goes up strong.
