After watching the three SL Summer League games there are guys playing for the Jazz right now that in my opinion have no chance of making the regular season roster unless something unusual happens. The guys that I see as dead men walking with little or no chance of being here on opening night include Motum, Jajuan Johnson, Wesley Saunders, probably Cotton, Dante Cunningham, Hanlan, Chris Johnson and maybe Little Sap. Cooley would be on the list but if he were cut DL might have to check into witness protection so save himself from the hordes. Johnson and Cunningham are former first round picks and both have had their moments in the summer league so far.

I would take Millsap, Cotton and Johnson off that list. They are good players and deserve end of bench spots. Just like Cooley. Problem is that the Jazz cannot keep them all.

Kind of stunned you included Millsap on the list of dead men walking. I've heard DL mention 'Sap by name in a recent interview when he was talking about being happy with Utah's wings. I also think Cotton is a Jazz man next year because not only do I think he's earning it, I'm still not convinced Burke is on the opening day roster. Hell, even if Burke is still here, Utah's starting PG is fast, 6'7", and can guard the 2 defensively. If we carry 4 PG's, I still see Exum as a 1/2 hybrid meaning that Utah can still find minutes for Burke and Cotton/Neto while the odd man out is the 15th guy on the bench.

Bench is much better than it was last year. Partially because the Jazz have added a few pieces and partially because the coaching staff took guys like Booker, Jingles and Millsap and figured out how to bring out the best in them. Love the direction of this team.

Pretty soon, vets will be leaving money on the table to come be a part of it. That's the point where the Jazz become contenders. If Gobert and Exum become what we think they can. . . this team will be dangerous 2-3 years from now.

Those are definitely the last 4. They'll all get invited to training camp.

I would invite everyone to camp. I included little Sap on the list because of his shooting or lack thereof. Unless the Jazz move Burke, it will be tough to keep Cotton. I think all of the guys I mentioned have the ability to play in the league and play decently but it appears that there is no room at the inn for them.

Sap will stick this year. It's possible that none of Booker, Millsap, Cooley or Cotton are here next year though. . . but I think at least 3 of those guys will be on the opening roster. Millsap will stay just for his defensive prowess in practice even if he's not getting minutes in the rotation. He's one of Quin Snyder's guys. DL won't cut or trade him until someone significantly better is available.

If no trades happening I think Milsap makes the team and Cooley. I dont see Cotton making the team. We have Burke who is better and more invested in him and just signed Neto. No real room for him or need. Exum is our starting pg. He is not playing significant minutes at the two unless of foul trouble or injuries. Booker is on the team unless a great trade comes along.

Haven't seen anything but highlights this summer, but still like Brock Motum from last summer league. Thought he should've made the team.

Motum doesnt look like an NBA player to me. Maybe at the end of the bench, he can hustle and hit some shots but he is very underwhelming to me this summer league.

One of the reporters (I can't remember which one) said he is playing with an arm injury. I thought he looked like his back hurt the first night. Anyway I like the guy but I don't see him making the regular season roster. Maybe if the Jazz did a 5-1 trade he might be kept around to translate for Jingles and Dante.

We are more invested in Burke but I don't really think he's better than Cotton. I think the Neto signing was a sign that Burke's tenure on the team is coming to a close. Cotton's problems in making the team come down to Exum, Neto and Burke all being under contract next year. Cotton may make it instead of Cooley and Johnson as the 15th man off of the bench even if we keep Burke for a while. Just in anticipation of Burke not working out.
.
I'm probably about as low on Burke as can be right now. I don't see any NBA level skill. Cotton has some NBA level skill, even if that skill is just athleticism and speed, that is still more than I see in Burke. I'd rather them cut Trey than Cotton. Even though I know that is unlikely.
.
I'm not positive Millsap makes the team either. I think Johnson will push him for a roster spot. Right now Johnson is younger than Millsap while also being nearly, if not as good.
.
Sure bets on the roster: Gobert, Favors, Exum, Hayward, Hood, Burks, Booker, Ingles, Lyles, and Neto.
.
Likely on the roster: Pleiss, Millsap, Cotton, Johnson, and Burke.
.
Camp additions I think miss the roster but have a shot: Cooley, and Jerrett.
.
That is 17 guys. Unless I missed somebody. If either of Cooley or Jerrett make the roster it's at the expense of one of the likely on roster guys. Cooley will be hard pressed to make the 15 man roster if Pleiss is signed, Jerrett may have a better shot as I think he has a guaranteed contract. I'm not sure who he replaces though. Probably Cotton, Johnson or Millsap, unless Burke is traded. I put all 3 of those guys on even footing for the roster. I don't think Millsap is better than either Cotton or Johnson. Will be an interesting camp this year for the bottom of the roster guys. I think all of these guys are good enough to be on an NBA roster, though some of them probably won't be.

If Jazz get a good trade for Burke, great go for it. He is expendable because of Exum, not because of Neto or Cotton. I think Burke is better in almost every way except that Cotton is a little quicker. Neto has shown nothing in the NBA, I think the Jazz saw this as a chance to see what kind of asset they have since they have cap room. Bring him is as 3rd pg and if he is really good you trade him or Burke in the future.

I think Sponge Bob spare parts when I see this thread title.

Last night Motum looked good vs. the TWolves. O'Brien and Cunningham looked like legitimate ballers. I see no hope for any of those three unless there is a 5-1 trade to clear some roster space.

I think Pleiss is a lock on the final roster.

Cotton is exciting to watch, but doubtful about 4 PGs on roster unless Exum will play half his minutes at 2
