Awesome ppv tonight. Lots of good fights.
Both main events were entertaining and worthy of my money.

I did think the conner fight was stopped a little too early but it was a great punch and mendez did turtle up...... Thought the ref should have waited another 5 seconds or so.

3 seconds before the round ended. i think it was not an early stoppage seemed like mendez gave up due to the shot and gassed from bodyshots/shortcamp.

even if ref held it out think mendez was done.

as much as i want conor humbled. i think the stoppage was good maybe a 2nd later.

on the other hand i thought the lawler-rory fight should have been stopped a few times or atleast call in a doc to check them out

Not only is Chad Mendes the only fighter who has stepped into the cage with both UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo Jr. and interim featherweight champ Conor McGregor, but those fighters have handed him the only losses of his career.

Mendes is 0-3 against the duo following his UFC 189 loss to McGregor and 17-0 over the rest of his career.

So the Team Alpha Male fighter is in a unique position to make an honest assessment of the looming bout between Aldo and McGregor, which figures to be among the biggest in UFC history.

While Mendes is taking nothing away from McGregor, he has another level of respect for Aldo, who beat in 2012 and again last summer.

"I'm just going to say Jose is a different beast, man," Mendes said at the UFC 189 post-fight press conference in Las Vegas. "He's a tough dude."

In McGregor's case, Mendes was impressed with the striking accuracy of the man who finished him late in the second round.

"More than anything, he's accurate," Mendes said. "That's what plays into, I guess, the success he has with his punches. But nothing really was, like, overwhelmingly powerful. He's got power, but he's more accurate than anything."

When push comes to shove, though, Mendes isn't ready to call a winner in between Aldo and McGregor.

"That's a fight that I'm looking forward to watching, but, it's going to be a good one," he said.

I have to give it to Lawler, the guy has completely re-invented himself. I thought a few years ago, he was done but he has a lot of game left. That being said, I'm kind of surprised you didn't bring up his classless remarks after the match. He should have given the youngblood some dap for his display of heart.

I am an even bigger Rory fan now. When I saw that image of Rory at the beginning of the 4th round I believe, I ****ing yelled and got goosebumps.

UFC 189 was as perfect an event as it could have been!

wow mcgregor has real striking power inside the octagon. respect for his skills inside the octagon

mendes only lost to aldo in his carreer.
but what i saw tonight i aldo stands no chance. mendes and edgar could beat him a few times.

yes i am a female cat , i am a grappler first remember did judo from about 5 years old till about 17. then i started stirking. i can take falls like no other, you can judo throw me on concrete and i will smile all the way to the bank. i can take punches have learned to over the year. but after a few hits i go to what i learned first! GRAPPLING. so if that makes me a female cat. i am the biggest female cat on the planet

I was mostly pumped cus of the robbie fight. the conor mendes fight did not do it for me, rewatched em again today. guess mendes was gassed cus of body hits, maybe 1 day we get a rematch of full camp rematch for both. maybe conor will have trained take down defense cus imho he was easily taken down! and i am now pretty sure conor is just an act. an act seems like behind the scenes he is respectfull to most. but still doesnt do it for me.

now we get a season of the ultimate fighter with conor as coach and faber. 8 Americans vs 8 Europeans will fight. lightweight division(if i recall correct).

To me a fight should be stopped when the fighter is no longer defending himself..... Like his hands are not up protecting himself and he is taking unblocked shots to the head and face.
Mendes was covered up and getting hit in his hands by mcgegor for like a second and a half when the fight was stopped.
Mcgregor did land a great punch but it's not like mendez was unconscious. He was covered up and not taking any more excessive damage. The round would have ended, mendez would have risen to his feet with no problem and went to his corner and came out for the next round.
As for the comment about people who thought it was an early stoppage being butthurt. I was rooting for mcgregor (even won some money on the fight) so I was not butthurt. Simply thought it was an early stoppage

Absolutely! This cannot be argued. But with that said, MCG was able to do his thing after getting up each and every time.

FOJ, my comment was NOT directed at you at all. It was mostly in reference to the folks on the MMA subreddit. Sorry if you took it that way. Anyway, I re-watched the end of the fight and still think it was a good stoppage.

but seems like a herb dean thing.
early stopped barao vs faber, and ronda vs forgo the other chicks name(the olympic wresler) and if i call those 2 early stoppage i should call the mendes one early too.
maybe i am les pissed off because i feel like it looked like mendes gave up. and it might not have mattered as end result goes
