Burke Gets Invite

Hate for Burke? Hate? Hate is too strong a word. I would be considered by you to be a "hater" while I do not hate Trey. He has worked hard and behaved well. But after seeing him for 2 years I just don't think he has the basketball ability to be a very solid PG in the NBA, marginal backup maybe. Just my opinion, but that is not hate. I would be perfectly happy to be proved wrong, but I don't see it.

There's a fine line between doubt and hate. Doubting is only natural.

. Yet he was willing to do what was best for the team.

umm .. like he had a choice ....

point guards that continually shoot their team out of games while ignoring getting the ball to the better players on the team arent' going to last too long, be it as the starter or playing time full stop.. He certainly has the physical skills to be even an excellent backup, the question is does his mentality allow him to become just that distributor type of backup and reign in his shoot first ask questions later style ? Given the firepower off the bench there won't be the need to ask Trey to do too much.

I don't hate Burke, just hate his style of play, which I don't think fits well for the Jazz. I hate when he plays matador defense like a small version of Boozer, I hate when he thinks he's the man but is actually still just a boy.

How do you feel about Cotton. I dont see his style of play as all that different.

Also I think your hate of him or his attributes blind to the fact that he played decent defense the last couple months. He was at least average for his position, he played tough and got up in his guys grill and put in good effort. So he has already changed this one major hate you have of him.

Also I like when players act like a man on and off the court (which he is). Would you rather him act like a little kid on and off the court?

I do hope he improves his shooting. I hope he passes on fast breaks more and tries and pushed the ball. I hope he keeps playing decent defense. I hope he keeps trying to drive more like he did towards the end of the season. I hope he finishes at higher percentage when he gets in the paint and learns to score as a short PG. I also hope the coaching staff tells him to pass more now. Those are all doable things that would make him a good back up pg. Can he do those? yes. Will he do those? maybe.

It's pathetic how you guys are always hard on Burke all the time. It is great that he got an invite. It'll help him grow and improve in his game more. It helped for Gordon, so would Trey as well. Jazz are committed to him and aren't ready to give up on him that easily. Unless he himself requested a trade like Kanter did.

I can't believe how many people here want to trade Burke and let Cotton or Neto take over backup duty. Cotton has played 15 NBA games, Neto has played 0. From what I've seen, Cotton is just as streaky as Burke, is more turnover prone, and worse on defense. I think Burke will learn this year that if he's not feeling it to stop forcing up shots and stick to pushing the tempo, taking care of the ball and distributing. At least if he does that, he will not be a net negative on the court.

Also I like when players act like a man off the court (which he is). Would you rather him act like a little kid off the court?

Like when he showed the world his weiner?

Does anyone know why Favors isn't on this list?

Legit lmfao at Plumlee being invited. Is there anyone on this planet who would make an argument for Plumlee > Favors?

Personally I'd take Favors over Plumlee, Drummond, Chandler and Cousins (purely attitude).

Here is what I think the final roster will look like

Locks
Curry
Davis
Durant
Griffin
Harden
James

Curry, Paul
Harden, Westbrook, Leonard
James, Durant
Aldridge, Griffin, Anthony
Davis, Howard

Glad he got the invite, hope he can use the opportunity of being in this type of competitive atmosphere to hone his on-court approach/mentality. Working with coach K could be what he needs. Imo, a lot of his struggles are self-imposed. He will never be able to physically overmatch his opponents, so if he's going to be successful, he will have to do so by "playing the right way"- making the extra pass, finding the open shot (be it his own or one of his teammates), knowing when to push the pace & when to slow it down, letting the game come to him, etc. He still has the same ability that he had in Michigan, the problem (imo) is that he still has the same mentality as well. The biggest adjustment that he needs to make is playing within the system. If he is able to do so, I believe that he could still make a very affective back-up PG/6th man scorer on a championship caliber team. I just hope we are able to find out without losing Cotton or hurting Neto's development.
