Locke Podcast Today

Oh, I hurt Cy's little feelings as he told me to "shut up" in a neg rep comment. I thought the purpose of a board was to voice our opinions. I've lived in other media markets, including the biggest in both LA and NY. Independent journalists are much more vocal with their opinions in other cities. Locke is a company man. He has to be. Just like any of us cannot openly criticize our employers in public media or we'll find ourselves either unemployed, reprimanded or facing other repercussions. So yes, I DO believe Locke has to temper his opinions if they run contrary to the company line.

Yes absolutely. That's not being paranoid or being a conspiracy theorist, that's just the way it is!!!

The Larry H. Miller Group owns 1280 The Zone sports radio too, so they pay salaries to Gordon Monson, David James, Hans Olsen, Scott Girard, Patrick Kinnehan, Tony Parks, Spence Checketts and a whole lot more (in addition to David Locke). Craig Bolderjack and Matt Harpring are also paid by the Miller Group. I think it's worthwhile to note all of that, but until I see evidence to the contrary I'm comfortable with the assumption that these guys are all professional journalists who have not signed away their rights to tell the truth just because they are receiving a paycheck. BTW, I think some of the previously mentioned people are excellent at what they do... and I think some of them suck.

And that's why when I listen to those radio guys interview Dennis Lindsey, I always cringe a little.. because I know they want to ask many more questions but they have to try to be so polite when talking to him that they lose a little part of who they are as professional 'journalist' if you can call them that anymore. You've gotta be naive to think that they're asking all the questions they REALLY wanted to ask.. lol..

The Jazz have been clever in controlling the radio stations to try and control the message they give to fans, they have the right to do that, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

I don't agree. Can you point to a specific interview and tell me the questions you think they should have asked but didn't? Given that they get a lot of "no comment" answers to the questions they do ask, I'm pretty confident that I know what answer they would get to a more controversial question.

Remember, although the Miller Group pays the salaries of a lot of journalists in this market, they don't pay all of them. If their is a scoop to be had there will be plenty of people (including those paid by Miller, I believe) hot on its trail.

All that said, is this market as intense as NYC or NJ (just ask Derron) or Philly or DC or Miami? Thank God, no. Hopefully some of the players out there recognize that, because when it comes to attracting free agents, we need all the help we can get.

There's lots of questions they should have asked but didn't. As an example, the Exum injury interview. They didn't go into the specifics about whose idea was it to let Exum play International ball, was it Exum, his dad or the FO. That would have been a pretty good question.

Also what policy do they have going forward about guys playing International ball? Why not have young players trained up with the Jazz a bit more before letting them go off overseas - ala what OKC is doing with Steven Adams? NZ journalists here interviewed Adams and asked the hard question about him not joining the National Team when Adams was holidaying here last week - why can't Monson and these other guys ask the same types of questions?

These are the type of questions we as a fan can expect from an Independent Journalist asking the GM. But we didn't get any of that. Instead we get them having a polite chat, giggling about inside jokes, whether DL played golf last Sunday, etc, etc. Bottom line is if the journalists aren't independent they cannot be totally impartial, it's as simple as that.

Wow, all of this from a guy who was celebrating buying a t-shirt a couple of days ago as one of the best decisions of his life. You said you were an easy-going and simple man. What happened in the last 24 hours?

If there is 1 thing I hate, it's being played and manipulated. This is one of those situations. These "journalists" are parading around like impartial commentators, acting like all is well. The only reason DL appears on their shows is because they own the station - does DL appear on other stations for interviews? Not to my knowledge. It's absolutely a judge & jury type situation.

Again I ask you, did any local media with ties to the Jazz question Exum's inexperience and why he was allowed to play for Australia? Did Locke even talk about why Stevan Adams was not allowed to go and the reasons for that, and how it relates to Exum? And how we could manage our young players going forward? Noo... instead all Locke got was "This is a good chance for Burke to step up". Gee.. I could have come up with that on my own thank you very much.

The fact of the matter is the Jazz has full control and they wanted it that way that's why they bought out the radio station in the first place.

Nah they're not fooling me.

One Dumb ***

The Jazz can't control Exum's decision to play for team Australia. It would be dumb as **** for Utah to try to over control their young players and create ill will towards the organization. They wanted Exum to play for team Australia because he was inexperienced. Go suck some phallic shaped objects.

OKC and Sam Presti didn't allow Steven Adams to play for the Tall Blacks without creating ill will - how do you explain that then?

While the injury was devastating for Exum this year it seems to me that preventing him from playing for his national team would not necessarily have prevented the injury, and there could have been a wide array of other outcomes as well. What if Exum had played for the national team, not been injured, and experienced an explosion in confidence and aggressiveness? In other words, I think wringing our hands over the decision to play in this tourney simply because something went wrong is a case of 20/20 hindsight, and a complete waste of time.

What happened happened. Now we move on. I'm not even slightly concerned that the local media has not handled this situation more aggressively, and given who you claim to be, I'm quite surprised that you're so upset.

My point wasn't regarding Exum specifically. I'm just saying the so called "Independent Journalists" didn't ask the questions that needed to be asked.

That was your original question was it not?

Steven Adams is a bitch with no country pride and is scared of losing his starting job to Kanter?

What question?

Why did the Jazz let Exum play? The most Captain Hindsight ******** question possible? Why are Spurs letting Tony Parker play? Dont they know an injury could happen?

It's ****ing basketball, injuries happen. Stop being One Dumb ***.

No country pride? He just completed a camp here in NZ where 100's of Kiwi kids went through and played basketball for the first time.

He chose to rehab his hands and other injuries and said he'll join the Tall Blacks later at some stage in his career.

Sounds like a weenie. People from New Zealand are weenies.
