Jazz is possible team to claim Bennett !!!

Anthony Bennett, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft, has reached agreement on a contract buyout with the Minnesota Timberwolves, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Bennett has to clear waivers in the next 48 hours to become an unrestricted free agent. Four teams have the salary cap space or the trade exception necessary to absorb Bennett’s $5.8 million contract: the Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers, Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz.

Utah would need to waive a partially guaranteed contract to clear an additional $600,000 needed to claim Bennett. The Jazz have $5.2 million in salary cap space now.

LOL. Talk about twisting a report around. Do you work in politics lesliecheung?
Technically your thread title is correct. It IS possible for the Jazz to claim him. They won't, though. He's a bust and hasn't done anything well in the NBA. Only Portland might be desperate enough to give him a shot. But why would anyone pay him $5.8M when they can sign him for near the league minimum?

Offer him min deal after he clears waivers and let him battle for a spot

Wouldn't the Jazz still have to pay him his 5.8m salary? If not, this is a no-brainer.

Only if they claim him off waivers. If nobody claims him, he becomes free agent(getting the buy out money he agreed with the Wolves) and can sign with whoever he chooses to for whatever $ he they agree to.

Bennett wants and needs playing time. He won't get it in Utah with Booker and Lyles on the roster.

Lyles >>>> Bennett

Bennett seems like the classic-case tweener. Not big enough to play inside. Not skilled enough to play on the perimeter. Has a difficult time defending. Still, if guys like Big Baby Davis can stick in the league, there ought to be a place for Bennett.

Pure speculation. He's only mentioning Utah because we're one of the teams with cap space. We would have no interest in Bennett.

If the Jazz do go after him, it would be really interesting to think that both Lindsey and Snyder believe there is something there that can be developed. So far, their record together is pretty good.

he didn't agree to a buyout he was waived. if some one picks him up off waivers they are stuck with the full bill minny is off the hook. if he clears waivers then minny is on the books for his full amount.

he will clear waivers

Hopefully he can go somewhere and carve out a niche, pretty sure the T-Wolves did him a favor here, no reason to let him sit on the bench. The Jazz have Trey Lyles, they're not getting Anthony Bennett...

At the end of the day, I really believe what happened with Bennett had a lot to do with confidence. I swear back at Findlay he used to have a really silky, confident shooting stroke from like 15-20 ft. Something went awry..

The whole Asthma and conditioning/body fat part of the story is just such a mess - If thats really what limited him at some point, which sounds like it was the case, and they knew that at the time of the draft and still vouched for him #1 - that's damning, shame on the Cavs for that. You could make the case that no teams set their #1pick up for failure, worse than that.

Nerlens busted knee threw a lot of people for a loop. Huh??

He's not a bust though, not yet. Yaroslav Kovalav was a bust, Rafael Arujao was a bust. Bennett will stick around in the NBA, he's only 22. Good luck to him!!

We should totally get him. High altitude and winter inversions should be great for his asthma.

This is among the worst teams for him. Besides the aforementioned hurdles for an asthmatic he would be way down the depth chart.

Everyone but op seems to agree so no more "Anthony Bennett to the Jazz" threads, ever.
