What's new

Supermoon eclipse tonight!

Even though this one is a super moon the last one was much more dramatic. I think it completely depends on location though, so on the east coast it's probably a lot better.

Agreed. The last one did look better from SLC. There was also wispy clouds so I couldn't get the scopes anywhere near focused on it. Still perty cool though.

Total eclipse from 8:11 to 9:23 mountain time.

Enjoy:)

With your heads up sign, I was able to take a look at the moon at 2:26 this night, but it was really cloudy in where I live and the moon looked just the same so I went to bed. Bad stomach also helped. I should stop eating Eid food at 2 AM.

I looked around twitter photos of the event and I can see that many people who stood up until 3 AM also did not see a clear giant red Moon but instead a clouded blurry white regular one. So no biggies.

I figure we will relive this in 2033. So was the previous Super Moon Eclipse happened in 1997? If this is the case, I think I saw it in 1997 or at some time around that era when I was a younger.

the red moon had like a 40m window as far as i know, on my way to work 10:30pm mtn standard time i was looking up to see the moon a little bigger and brighter, but still white. I must have missed it too! :(

Yeah it sucks to miss it after this big hype. As a matter of fact, the time I actually saw it back in 90's was a coincidence. I was on holiday with my family and walking with my summer friends and my cousin along the beach at night and I suddenly saw that big red giant circle right in front of us. It was a damn good sight to see. So I consider myself lucky to witness one of them Moon Eclipses.

The eclipse last night was cool, bit a lunar eclipse is nothing compared to a total solar eclipse. I saw one in Indonesia back in the 90's. You have to be in a very narrow band in order to witness them. A partial solar is nothing, but when it goes total... WOW!!!

There's going to be one in North America on August 21, 2017. The nearest spot to Salt Lake to see it will be around Jackson, Wyoming. I'll be there for sure (unless the world unexpectedly ends sometime before that). This link (https://www.eclipse2017.org/2017/path_through_the_US.htm) will lead you to a map that shows you exactly when and where you will need to be. Don't miss it!

Ya I think the lunar eclipse was pretty lame.

Solar eclipse would be dope though.
Might have to make the trip to Jackson hole for that
