If I'm NY, I do that too. Mostly because Trey's young and I'd be a team that should try to get anything for Calderon and his deal because they should probably rebuild. His cap number means little to the Jazz and they could use a proven NBA PG.

What Calderon does is hit open shots well (we don't have a PG that does this), pass well, not turn the ball over, and not tax the team with his possessions. I'm aware that Calderon is no longer a star in the league, but fans have this attitude that you're either great or worthless. Calderon is neither, and for what would likely cost nothing but his cap number if he were to be on the block, that's good.

He also played on a complete ****ing rat-storm of a team that played no defense as a team.

Basketball is a very dynamic team sport and players are not automatons. Trey Burke suddenly appears to be a good defender when he shares the floor with Gobert and Favors. The most important factor in perimeter defense in most cases is who's protecting the rim. We watched what happens to supposedly high-level perimeter defenders with 0 rim protection for years and it was not good.

As an offensive player, he's (been) kind of a perfect pure point guard. For some reason, point guards that hit open shots, move the ball, don't **** up, and don't do much more (or in other words, use possessions well and don't tax their teams with trying to do too much) are pretty rare.
 
Anyway, of course it doesn't have to be Calderon. I just don't know who the Jazz are going to get that is going to make everyone happy without giving up a piece that makes no one happy.
 
Dante is becoming more overrated than Kanter's pancake ***. Trading value-gamble at a high point isn't the same as "giving up on".

It's weird, I feel like you're the one overrating him by assuming that his trade value is at a high-point. There is maybe a handful of teams that would give up anything of value for a huge question mark like Exum. His value to the Jazz is probably higher than anywhere else, other than maybe Philly.

I don't think trading Burks would be a big deal. We were good without him.

Maybe someone like Jordan Clarkson is available?

Jordan Clarkson is just a SG who has been playing PG in the absence of a real PG.

What about Isaiah Thomas or Marcus smart?

Boston likes Terry Rozier and they seem like they might want to keep flipping players for their long rebuild.

Hell I'd rather have Rozier. I think he'd be good right now too. But I think they like him a lot.
