What's new

3-wing lineups are a bandaid + we shouldn't wait for Dante

Utah should have rolled the dice on Lawson when they had the chance. Baking the cake sounded good, but now fans are getting hangry because the cake is taking longer than expected.
I was all about baking the cake...... Except for the pg position.

I think the cake baking was more in reference to all the wings that were being talked about (danny green, demarre carroll, etc)

Tyus is small and doesn't look like he can defend anybody. I doubt anyone considers him a starter at this point.

He's 6' without shoes. 6'2" with them. 6'5" wing span. He's not that small. That's hardly a size that would hold him back from being good.

I don't know much about him, but that's smaller than Burke.

No its not. Burke is smaller according to draft express.

That's not the problem anyways. The problem is Burke sucks. Chris Paul does plenty with his size who is the same size as Burke.

no. that's revisionist. I don't remember reading a single post by a Cakk Baker which singled out one position as editable.

I'm sure DL has turned over every rock and kicked a ton of tires looking for a better solution at PG. I'll bet he started the process the day after Exum got hurt. He knows what is out there right now and at what price. Maybe that changes after teams get through the pre-season and start looking at their 15-man rosters. There might be some vets teams are willing to let go as their 1st or 2nd year players show promise. I would bet a move will be made at some point. But there simply might not be a viable option (i.e. a PG at a reasonable price) on the market until the trade deadline.

I guarantee I did many many times. I was a huge cake bake supporter but always said that I would be happy to upgrade the pg situation. I have been a Burke hater since the day he was drafted and I have criticized dante as much as anyone.
Trust me, I was fine with changing the cake ingredient at the pg position

so let's trade Burks for an impact PG, then? What about Favors? Which piece of the rest of the cakk to we cut out in order to import a piece of PGcakk?

Not sure. I'm no gm
All I know is I was all for getting lawson, schroeder, calderon, beverly, lin, or pretty much any point guard suggested.

I was never happy with the point guard position. I think you no that about me btw

I mean sure, but name me a PG we could trade for that would either:
1. Compete with Dante when he is back as our future at that position
2. Be a competent PG and then just take a backseat role to Dante when he comes back

This is exactly the type of knee-jerk reaction the Jazz DON'T make (especially in preseason before we even KNOW how this team is going to mesh). If that PG is out there and we don't give up any of our core-6 to get him, please do share.

I'd hate to trade Exum, then have him turn into the next Jason Kidd in the next 3-4 years. Not saying he will but that's the other side of the coin argument.

The timing of the injury was awful. I think had we known Dante was going to be out before the draft or free agency then we have a lot more options. At this point the smartest thing to do is roll with what we have.

Part of the premise of the thread that suggests we should trade Dante is a bit premature. I do think we should proceed with the idea that he may not have a good chance of panning out as the point guard of the future. If the right opportunity comes along to acquire a vet or a long term solution there we should jump on it. If Dante develops then we clear the hypothetical log jam then.

There was plenty of discussion about moves at the pg position that the cake bakers were against.
