How about kevin durant? He is a pretty good scorer. Why aint he coming off the bench? Is it good to have scorers in the starting line-up too, or only the bench?

I don't get why you are upset. Burks's is kicking butt and making the Jazz better. Oh noes! He isn't starting!!! Who cares? he is excelling. Want more MPG? Fine, give less to Ingles and Johnson.

To me this seems like arguing and complaining just because. Burks gets more MPG than anyone not named Gobert, Favors and Hayward.

Burks is crushing it and you should be gloating.

No I'm not comparing hood and Burks vs durant.
You said Burks comes of the bench cause he is a good scorer and the bench needs scoring.

So why don't all the best scorers in the league cone off the bench?

It's really quite simple. You should start your best players and play those players as many minutes as possible.
Pretty much every team in the league has a lull when the bench comes into the game. Because the bench players are not as good as the starters. This is normal and the way it's always been and always will be.

And I'm fine with him coming off the bench. The problem is that when you come off the bench you don't get enough minutes. Play him 33 minutes off the bench and I wouldn't complain. I guarantee that he will never average that many minutes per game coming off the bench though

Not all teams are equal. Comparing them all is pointless.

I agree it is simple. You should start all your players where it is best for the team. The Burke/Burks combo on the bench (regardless of total MPG) is lethal right now. It has been a massive success. I see no reason to change it. Burks is excelling in the role he has been given. He is even closing games.

Yes, it is partly because needed offense off of the bench, but it's also partly because of lack of synergy and lack of defense when starting. Hence, why I called before the season even started that Burke and Burks belong on the bench. (But I'm actually Quin Snyder so I knew all along lol)

A lot of posters here like to just look at the offensive production of these two and ignore their defense. People gave Kanter **** for sucking at defense even though he had good offensive production but somehow this doesn't apply to Burke and Burks for those same posters.

By coming off the bench they don't disrupt the offensive flow of Hayward and Favors. Plus, we should start out the game with teamwork/synergy/better defense, which is what Hood/Neto provide. Coming off the bench, the defense of Alec and Trey is not as much of a burden because they will be guarding bench players. Moreover, we need offense from the bench like you mentioned and they are both much more effective on offense coming off the bench.

You didn't address the part of my post where I said I'm fine with him coming off the bench but he will never get 33ish (starter type) minutes as long as he is coming off the bench.

There are only 2 players on the Jazz getting 33 mpg. Gobert (33.4) and Hayward (33.7). That's it. Favors (30.0) is only getting 2.6 mpg more than Burks (27.4)

So by your definition only 2 starters are getting starter minutes. Favors, Neto and Hood are not.

Burks is getting more MPG than the starting 2, Hood (26.7 mpg).

If you want more MPG for Burks then I'd say let's run more triple wing and less Neto. Give Neto time to learn how to shoot.
 
I believe that if Burks were a better defender, then he'd be starting no matter what. I don't see him make nearly enough of an impact on that end.

As far as Burks play, he has been fantastic! Such a boon for the Jazz this year. I want to see the triple wing come even more. Split most the PG minutes between Burks and Neto. Which would increase his MPG.

Favors, Gobert, Booker, Hayward, Burks, Hood, Burke should get the vast majority of time. With Neto, Ingles and Lyles getting what's left.

That's a lot of money to pay your 2nd best shooting guard. Jeremy Lamb is looking pretty good at $7 million/year.

Lamb is looking really good at 7 million.

I don't think anyone said that Burks contact is the best in the league or anything though.

He said Burks has a fantastic contract for a player who wants to be here and is willing to come off the bench

A more apt question is, how often have they cut the deficit we inevitably have by the time they check in back to even by halftime? Insanely unsustainable shooting numbers from Lamb early on.

Also, I really wanted Lamb in the Kanter trade. I wonder if the Jazz even asked about him.

With Burks showing a willingness and ability to shoot/make 3's, I would say it might be time to start him. The worst thing about playing Burks as the 6th man and having him finish games is that it makes substitution patterns more complicated.

It's amazing that an improved alec burks is playing less now than he was 2 years ago under corbin
