True but the the trick is to find rookie gems and to lock player with considerable upside into roleplayer deals, and also to win when everythings aligned!
Steph Curry got the contract of a 1.5 option, not a #1 and look at how thats worked for the Warriors..
6 is too much. but I like to shoot for the stars, it'd be nice to have a few near #1 options ready, and have a few in development -- thats my point. What the hell is drafting BPA all about if you don't think they have high potential???
Point is you can win like that sharing the rock, look at the 82-83 76ers, they split up the scoring between an aging Dr. J, Andrew Toney and Moses Malone, won 65 games and the chip.
We don't have an aging Dr. J, Andrew Toney and Moses Malone, and we don't have an aging Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili.
Aside from that, I agree with your premise. The Jazz have $33 mil in cap space next summer and a ton of picks to trade. There is potential to add two studs there (Derozan and Conley?) that will push them up to the Clippers tier. We all know how unlikely that is to happen, there just aren't any good teams to match with and there aren't any good free agents who will move the needle enough.
