What's new

The Jazz drafting philosophy sucks

That's great.

Now let's look through non Homer glasses.

2007 - Morris Almond over Aaron Afflalo. Fesenko over Mark Gasol

2008 - Kostas Koufos over a bunch of good players, Ibaka, DeAndre Jordan, George Hill, Nicolas Batum, Goran Dragic.

Ibaka and Jordan stand out the most here. We needed rim protection, and we chose Kosta Koufus, who by the way was getting the same praise Lyles is getting now.

2010 - Even though Gordon turned out good, it was still a mistake to take him over George. Hayward was mocked well after where George was sitting. It was reach for the choir boy.

2011 - Kanter over Knight was dumb. We didn't need another big. We needed a point guard, and Knight projected to be a better player. Kanter was an unathletic stiff.

Burks over Leonard was a disaster.

2012 - Didn't tank like we should have, and missed out on the GS pick and our own pick.

2013 - traded up to take the worst point guard out of all the top point guards. Also missed out on other players because of that bad trade. Taking Burke over McCollum was a joke.

2014 - Jazz half *** the tank and miss out on some better players. They take Exum who has proven nothing and is soft mentally. Scared to even make a layup. Gets hurt when he tries. That's yet to be determined, but it doesn't look good. Could have taken future Superstar Zach Lavine.

2015 - Lyles over a whole bunch of better prospects.

Jazz roster to date

Gobert, best asset. Great pick. But got lucky. Should have missed out when they traded both pick for Trey Burke

Hayward - great pick, but was still a mistake taking him over George.

Favors - traded for

Burks - sucks. Horrible pick taking him over Leonard

Hood - Good pick. Got lucky he slidl so far.

Lyles - sucks. Soft player

Exum - sucks. Soft player

Trey Burke - sucks

Neto - sucks, but a really late pick.

The rest not even worth mentioning or weren't drafted by us.

That's not evidence of good drafting.

Hack...

Go ahead and draft next year's class ahead of the draft to prove to us who is a no brainer. When you are done, wait 1 year and go ahead and post this thread again. We'll see if your picks are better than the Jazz's. Then let's do it for a decade. If you keep up your flawless 20/20 decision making then we can hire you to be an analsyst (typo?) for the Jazz.

Can we please stop bitching about drafting Hayward over Paul George? Teams before us drafted far worse players than Hayward.

Boo-hoo, of all the players drafted after Hayward, ONE ****ing player ended up being better. I guess Utah's drafting philosophy sucks because they don't always get the best player they possibly can. Just like every other team in every other professional sport.

Agree!
In addition, we do not know how PG would have done in Utah and vice-versa.....

How long has Hack been his username? I'm looking for his moronic predictions in former draft threads.

Seriously... inspect the drafts since DL took over. He took over in 2012, but admitted the first year he deferred a bit.

We got easily one of the top 2 picks in 2013 in Gobert with the 27th pick. We also drafted the second leading 'off the bench' player in the NBA.

We got easily one of the top 7 picks in 2014 with the 23rd pick with Rodney Hood. We also drafted a player who has explosive upside compared and the highest likelihood of bust or home run perhaps available for the spot.

2015 marks a decided strategic pick. There is a TYPE of player that we draft, yes. But put yourself in the position of a manager. You are hiring someone you will work with, travel with, daily... what type of culture do you want? Sac town STILL have major issues with DeMarcus.

So, we draft Trey who isn't looking to be the impact player that Hood and Gobert are 30 games into the season and you cry boo hoo.

1. Have patience... there is a great trend above that couldn't be matched by 90% of the teams given the draft spots
2. Think... management changed yo. You should probably take that into account when whining about the current management style. DL at the top has me excited.
3. Kanter was a bust, but he was exactly the type of low character, stubby armed, star or bust type thug that you are begging for.
4. CJ McCollum is a high character guy, but not a point guard which we desperately needed. At the time, I think most of us didn't want a combo guard with Alec on the bench. Now... you must have had the vision and foresight to pick McCollum now that he is having a crazy break out year after 2 years of doing nothing (during which you weren't preaching the failure of the Jazz not drafting McCollum now were you).

Your position is still unclear... you want thugs, but you don't want Kanter. You don't want 'nice guys' but you think we were fools to not draft McCollum? You want to aim for the fences and Exum isn't good enough. So, what exactly do you think the draft strategy is again? What are you even saying here?

Hindsight, you blistering pile of festering puss

LULZ. Looking at former threads, you loved Treyde Burke...but now, oh now, you say the Jazz screwed up because he sucks. Got it.

I don't doubt it at all, but I wish you had posted some samples.

Check out the thread Hack started about drafting Burke. So funny in context.

IMO, the two biggest mistakes were picking Burke over Antetokounmpo (who I loved) and not committing to the tank and chasing Wiggins/Parker.

They've done well with Hayward, Burks and getting Favors. Crapped the bed with Burke and Kanter. Hit home runs with Gobert and Hood. Some hits, some misses and some great picks. Better than most teams.

We have an Annual JazzFanz's Draft Homer's List going each year to see who got it right and who got it wrong... you can take a look if you're interested here:

Just to be fair, Hack doesn't get paid millions per year to make personnel decisions. DL and other Jazz FO staff do. Thus we might reasonably expect DL and FO staff to make better personnel decisions on average than Hack, and it is fair to judge DL and FO staff in hindsight as to whether they are doing their job well, just like every job review looks at past job performance. I'm not saying I agree with Hack, just that I think some of the criticism leveled at his is unfair.
