What's new

GT: Kings @ Jazz. 7 MST.

I think we all want progress... Making the playoffs is just that. 5 spots doesn't seem like much to me in this years draft. Top 8 seem okay but after that it seems very eye of the beholder.

We have guys who are going to want to build and see progress that are going to be free agents... That factor plus the fact that players do grow because of playoff experience and it is well worth the lotto spots. The time for tanking has past... We are too good for that **** now

It's not tanking I'm advocating. I'd just prefer a losing record didn't qualify us for the playoffs. Let me make this clearer:

Let's pretend for a second that the West is so terrible, 29 games would get you the 8th spot. If the Jazz only won 29 games, would you take playoffs over the significantly better draft pick? That's how I feel, except it's the high 30's instead of the high 20's we're dealing with.

If the Jazz made the playoffs this year with a winning record, that would be awesome progress, and a major positive. If they make it with a losing record, and backdoor their way in because the lower half of the West is terrible? Waste of time - I'd prefer a better draft pick at that point. Making the playoffs with a losing record doesn't give you a power boost. There's nothing magical about it. I wish people would stop pretending otherwise.

These aren't the Pelicans or nets. That's just laughable and idiotic.

Not as laughable and idiotic as assuming that making the playoffs power levels you. By the way, why are you even bringing up the Nets? I was referring more to the Bucks, Celtics, and yes, the Pelicans. All up and coming young teams (especially the first two). All made the playoffs last year. All out of the playoff picture this year. The successful development of a young team, pretty god damn clearly, isn't contingent upon whether or not they squeak into the playoffs.

I just want to say, I think the "playoff experience" thing is just not true if you are a mediocre team squeaking in and promptly swept. 8th seed in West last year --- New Orleans. How did all that "playoff experience" go for them this year? What about Milwaukee Bucks, a 41-41 6th seed? Terrible this year, with a young core.

Our team ain't a playoff team. Do we play any games this year where you think "I'm pretty sure we will win this game"? Well, maybe tonight (which we lost). I don't think we'll be favored in any upcoming games other than the Lakers. The team sucks, I'm not happy with it. It's mostly injuries. But i'm getting ready to throw in the towel and be zen about it.

I'm super down to make the playoffs, but as a team that earns it. As a 39 win 8th seed that only makes it because we were only slightly less bad than the Kings and Blazers were? No thanks. I'll take a 10th overall pick in that case. ****ing frustrated.

People, we are down 2 starters, and 1 6th man. It'll be ****ing fine. Jesus. We're making the playoffs, barring further injuries.

The absence of Derrick has accelerated Trey's development (Lyles). This should be applauded. Nearly had a 20 point game, following a 16 point game. He's gonna fit in ****ing perfectly once Derrick returns. Then we can get some attention off of Gordon, and let Fav carry us for the next several weeks.

It'll be okay.

The play of Lyles is at least something to hang our hat on. Damn it we need some more offensive punch. We need a consistent 3 pt shooter to go with Hood.
The problem is that Burks isnt that. I hope we can somehow pull a trade off to fill this need or get this guy in the 2016 draft with our mid level pick.

Thanks awesome highlights of Trey Lyles. His balance scores finally paying off.

Oh yeah, that psychological effect is really helping out the Pelicans this year isn't it.

Why do you keep implying getting your *** swept in the first round by the Warriors levels you up?
So should the goal for the jazz, rockets, grizzlies, trailblazers and the teams in the east that are in the 8-10 spot be to get the coveted 10-14 spots in the draft cause that will get them all the championships?

Making the playoffs with 30 something wins a year after missing it with 30 something wins doesn't show improvement at all. It shows the West has regressed.
What if we make the playoffs with 40 something wins?

You seem locked in on this 35 or 36 wins and making the playoffs as the 8th seed against the warriors.
It's not a foregone conclusion. I think there is still a ****load of games left iirc

Who gives a **** if you're considered a scrub team or an irrelevant marginal team?! I still hope that Exum works out, and the team meshes into something special when everyone is healthy. But as it stands, making the playoffs makes no difference whatsoever to the future of the team. In fact, I'll take 5 better spots in the lottery ten out of ten times, over making the playoffs with 35 wins to get embarrassed.
How do we know that the jazz are going to end up with 35 wins again?

Every single young up-and-coming team that squeaked into the playoffs last year is out of the playoff picture and doing much worse this year. Doesn't make any sense, I thought they all leveled up?
Do you think there has ever been a team that squeaked in to the playoffs and then got better next year or does making the playoffs automatically mean that you level down?

You seem to be saying that 8th seed = level down every bit as much as jamezz is saying 8th seed = level up.

Imo it could go either way depending on many many factors
