What's new

GT: Kings @ Jazz. 7 MST.

It's all that intense experience bruh. You suck and you barely get into the playoffs, then you soak all that elite experience into your bones, and then you're suddenly better than all of those other teams ahead of you that also made the playoffs. Flawless logic.
Yep. Flawless logic is that making the playoffs makes you much worse and getting the 12 pick in the draft makes you a contender

I'm sorry guys. I'm just in a really bad mood. On top of this ****ty loss, I'm having the worst poker night of my life. This ****ing piece of **** idiot PLAYS EVERY HAND AND CALLS EVERY BET. But he can't ****ing lose! And people believe in God!! Down $250 to that **** already.
It's all good

Lots of hyperbole in this thread.

There's a case to make for both sides of the argument - tank and get a better pick (because they've underachieved so far and need more talent) or play balls out to make it to the playoffs regardless of the end results because winning now should (hopefully) lead to more winning. It's not that making it to the playoffs makes you magically better. . . it's that making the playoffs gives you a chance to learn and grow on a big stage.

I'm 100% convinced that the Jazz team that went 19-10 (and played amazing defense after the All Star break last year) would not have been swept if they had made it to the playoffs. If this team can add a player at the deadline, GET HEALTHY, and start playing like that again. . . I think they'll at least be competitive. They won't get swept. They probably won't win, but they won't get swept. Also, an injury to Curry or Green completely changes the dynamics of the series. (Kind of like how Gallinari and Lawson going down impacted the Nuggets/Warriors series back in 2013 - as an example.)

I don't think making the playoffs automatically makes you better, but how you play on the big stage CAN give you a boost in confidence that can be built on for the future. But you need to get there first. The goal needs to be 42 wins. Get to a winning record and not focus on playoffs or seeding. No quality free agent is going to want to play for the Jazz if they stay treadmill or take a step back. The goal should be to win enough games (in conjunction with a big pile of money) to entice someone of value to come to the Jazz. Can't do that when you continue to miss the playoffs year after year.
Allah dis

Took the words out of my mouth.
People seem to be forgetting how we finished last year.
I don't know what our record was last year at this point in the season but I bet it was worse than it currently is and we finished with 38 (?) wins yet now our ceiling to some people is only 35 wins in a weaker western conference? Doesn't make much sense to me

Let's pretend for a second that the West is so terrible, 29 games would get you the 8th spot. If the Jazz only won 29 games, would you take playoffs over the significantly better draft pick?

Depends.
If the jazz get swept and lose every game by 20 and the 10th pick ends up having a career like dirk nowitzki then I would rather miss the playoffs.

If the jazz go into the playoffs on a winning streak with everyone healthy, including exum, and then win a couple games in the playoffs and have a good showing and the #10 pick turns out to be kirk snyder type player then I would rather make the playoffs.

One thing I know for sure. The jazz won't finish with 29 wins. And 29 wins won't be enough to make the playoffs.

Not as laughable and idiotic as assuming that making the playoffs power levels you.

Do you really think that someone believes that making the playoffs automatically levels you up?

Jamezz saying that playoff experience could be valuable to the jazz is not the same thing as automatically magically levelling up.

The play of Lyles is at least something to hang our hat on. Damn it we need some more offensive punch. We need a consistent 3 pt shooter to go with Hood.
The problem is that Burks isnt that. I hope we can somehow pull a trade off to fill this need or get this guy in the 2016 draft with our mid level pick.

pretty encouraging stuff in a discouraging stretch.

Gonna say it: the play at 0:26 is hardcore Boozer. Good Boozer. O_O

Just watched a replay of that Cousins dunk after the whistle where he knocked Booker out. Cousins dunks and immediately looks down. When he steps forward and looks up he is surprised to find Booker there. How and the hell are you surprised?! You just nailed him in the face literally 1 second ago!

To his credit is immediate reaction was to steady Booker a little by holding on to him. But seriously? How are you surprised lol?

Not as laughable and idiotic as assuming that making the playoffs power levels you. By the way, why are you even bringing up the Nets? I was referring more to the Bucks, Celtics, and yes, the Pelicans. All up and coming young teams (especially the first two). All made the playoffs last year. All out of the playoff picture this year. The successful development of a young team, pretty god damn clearly, isn't contingent upon whether or not they squeak into the playoffs.
My god!!! Let me soak this in for a minute...

What the hell is power level?!? Is that like Mario getting a mushroom. God, I swear this board has gone the way of the thumb suckers. How old are u idiots. Grow up and stop sucking on your moms milk factory just long enough to realize this is not the Pelicans, Nets, Bucks, Celtics. And whoever else u named. The Jazz are up and coming, not these teams in two years we will have An offensive big 3 in Hayward, Hood, and Favors to go with the best most unique rim protector. Then we have we have two good scorers in Burke and Burks coming off the bench and then add last nights Trey Lyles and amino Gobert in Whithy. This team has no business in the late lotto and every ****ing reason to be in the playoffs. I don't know what this power level thing is u speak of, but playoff basketball is the next step in the process of our rebuild. Winning is all about experience and the playoffs is a whole bother beast entirely. While your talking about eating mushrooms, I'm talking about the evolution and experience of the team.

U should take a break from your moms milk factory and grow up!

Awesome, Thanks. Didn't get to see the game. I expected to see a ton of jump shots and he's driving and throwing it down. Love it.

This. The playoffs are a whole different monster. Nothing wrong with our guys playing 4-7 games against the same team in the more dramatic playoff scenario, with loud and full arenas and a much more competitive atmosphere. I think this would be more valuable towards next season than moving up 4-5 spots in the draft this season.

Lol, that made me laugh.

Last night's game was one of the biggest nut-punches I've ever had as a Jazz fan. What a gritty comeback with the worst shooting night ever. Then Rudy Gay rips the Jazz hearts out. Bummer. It'd be nice to be at full strength.
