Nah it really wasn't, you've gotta understand how Dolan likes to run that ship over there, he thinks he's the puppet-master. Part of those contracts were to fool the Knicks fans into sense of security, thinking they were turning the corner with new guys in charge, ones with multiple championship typa pedigree's.
Pretty sure he told Phil Jackson to name his price..
Now that they've got Porzingis he can do whatever he wants, they've got a franchise pillar and everyone knows it.
There's way more $$$ to be made presenting Porzingis as the savior, rather than a good old fashioned efficient front office.
