Would You Sign Larry Sanders?

Yes. Without Rudy and/or Favors, our interior D takes a huge hit. This is the major strength of our team.

Sign him to a low-risk deal, and if he turns out to be a detriment, cut him.

Did every other basketball player die? Then no to Sanders.

So Sanders left because he's effed up in the head, and when he says stuff like "once (my) management company for artists, designers and photographers becomes more established, coming back to the game will be easier," it doesn't really make him seem any less effed up in the head. More so, actually.

I would sign him for the veteran minimum and he and Withey can fight it out for the minutes. Quin Snyder would headbutt Sanders if he gave him any lip.

He does have a good agent though: "Sanders receives $1.86 million per year until 2022 through his buyout with the Bucks via the stretch provision. Any future contract Sanders signs would be unaffected."

Larry Sanders has had anxiety and depression from the pressures of being a professional basketball player. He admitted that he turned to alcohol abuse and smoking marijuana to help him deal with those issues. He's been very candid in opening up about his struggles AND about how he went to a treatment facility and started focusing on his writing, art and music to help him deal with things after he left the treatment facility.

He's indicated an interest in playing basketball, but not with the same relentless focus on the game that he used to have. I'm not sure that is such a bad thing. He's a family man and seemingly a nice guy.

Again, I'd struggle with a big-money, long term commitment, but I'd sign him if the off-the-court stuff all checks out.

Remember this? It's worth a small risk. . .

I actually respect the man for leaving the game and a lot of money in order to try and get himself right. He self identified with major mental issues and is doing what makes him happy. Good for him. Don't sign him.

To be a true contender you got to take risk.. Otherwise be happy with at best getting a 8th spot and being bounced in first round, year after year..

No, I wouldn't sign him to a $300 contract to sell popcorn at a single Jazz game. Unreliable, unstable, and really not needed on this Jazz team. Why insert instability into a stable environment?

Small market teams = small margin for error.

I still remember (not so long ago) when there were discussions on Jazzfanz comparing Favors and Sanders. Some thought Sanders was better...LOL.
