Trade Deadline

Lol. If DL didn't know Kanter wanted out and wasn't happy before that like you're implying, then he's the biggest idiot in the league. We've been over it, our return for Kanter sucked. Now can we please stop talking about it?

Kanter groused about being behind Jefferson and Favors was impatient about backing up Millsap, Jazz got rid of both and made Kanter and Favors starters. But then Gobert exploded and Enes saw he was going to be a backup...again.

Funny thing is, he's now a backup with OKC averaging even FEWER minutes. Be careful what you wish for!

Ummm, no. Because that hypothetical was a complete ***hole who had already publicly demanded a trade and then torched the organization, his teammates, the fans and the city on his way out. Can you imagine his reaction if Utah had matched an offer?

The Jazz DIDN'T get a good return for him. Then again, Kanter didn't exactly have a stampede waiting to sign him during the summer. Only two teams were interested: OKC and Portland. Could Utah have gotten more out of Portland than they did from OKC? Maybe a couple of extra seconds.

Hypothecally, the Jazz could've offered max contracts to Reggie Jackson and Tobias Harris because they could've traded them too. That's a BAD bet to make.

I'll take peanuts and cap flexibility over that alternative, thanks. Jazz have Gobert, Favors, Hayward, Hood, Burks and Exum. They could add Teague/Hill and still easily make room for a MAX contract this summer if they could lure a star player in free agency.

That's WAY better than having $16+ million tied up in Kanter for the next 3 and 1/2 years. No guarantee that you can unload that contract if you need to.

I want the Jazz to take Teague, but it seems ATL is just exploring the market to see what is Teague real trade value.

The starting lineup Teague/Hood/Hayward/Favors/Gobert could amaze in the playoffs.

ORL has been busy today...

The Los Angeles Clippers are nearing agreement on a deal to acquire Orlando's Channing Frye, league sources tell @TheVertical.

Clippers would Lance Stephenson in a deal with Magic, but league sources say Clippers probing another deal elsewhere with Stephenson too.

Clippers could turn back to Orlando and complete Frye deal that would include Stephenson, CJ Wilcox and possibly a future 2nd rounder.

Sources: For tonight, Clippers holding back on finalizing Frye deal with Orlando. Clippers plans to give Orlando final word on Wednesday.

Clippers should consider it a huge win to unload Stephenson. For as talented as he is, I can't fathom a GM wanting that headache in his locker room.

But if they're holding off on a deal, apparently another team has some interest. Sacramento seems like a good fit. When all you have is headaches, what's one more?

Not really, not IF they want to keep Hayward, Exum, Hood, Gobert and Exum in '18/'19. There won't be room under the tax threshold. And there won't be room to keep even those five without all of them leaving a lot of money on the table.

As long as it didn't cost us Burks and the other core members the Jazz should offer packages including everyone+picks for Teague or Jrue Holiday.

I'm pretty sure we can pay our guys and keep them.

A possible sign something is going down?

"With trade deadline looming, Utah Jazz will not sign Erick Green and he will rejoin Reno Bighorns this week, per a league source" - SLC Dunk retweet

Nope. He's already had 2, 10-day contracts. Jazz either have to sign him for the rest of the season or not at all.

OK, consider this:
Hayward - $30M (max)
Favors - $25M (max would be $30M)
Gobert - $25M (about max)
Hood - $20M (max will be around $25M)
Exum - ???. Let's plug in $20M (perhaps high)

That's $120M (give or take) against a tax threshold that will likely be right around $120M. That does NOT include Burks, Lyles, Neto or any of our future 1st rounders, nor the other players needed to bring the roster to a 13-player minimum. Burks likely has to go. And one of those other 5 probably has to go - unless ALL of them take $3M-$5M below the salaries I listed. Again, No Burks, but the roster could possibly be filled with guys on rookie salaries and a few cheaper vets (like Neto and Withey types).

The above is why the Jazz will NOT be major players in free agency this summer. The time to offer someone a big 4-yr deal was 1-2 years ago. They COULD offer a 2-yr deal, or maybe even sign a player who wants to re-establish his value to a 1-yr contract. But probably not. The Jazz don't have a lot of rotation minutes to offer.

I can't remember a time when the Jazz was a major player in free agency.....

I'd rather have Kanter...because then we could get rid of him and suddenly get better. He's like a nitro-boost for the team every time they trade him for nothing.

Uh, I wonder if we'll be in the 65% of universes where a trade occur, or the 35% where it doesn't.

No really, I don't understand what these percentages mean.
It means that a trade happening is more likely than not. I think
