Why do we play so slow?

For the second straight season we are the slowest team in the NBA, and it is not that close.

We have young players, playing half our games at high altitude. This makes no sense to me. I realize our point guards are terrible, but there are other teams with bad point guards (76ers, Nuggets, for example) that manage to play at a faster pace.

Please, help me understand.

Thanks.

Because playing fast doesn't directly correlate to wins. How many games are the 76ers and Nuggets winning?

Maybe there is a middle ground and we shouldn't be the slowest in the league but I do think our defense suffers when the pace of play picks up, for whatever reason.

As young as we are and playing at altitude, we would surely steal at least a few games a season, simply running the other team off the court.

Oh, and welcome to the JazzFanz!

I for one think that using our youth, athleticism, and altitude to our advantage is a great idea.

I'm flabbergasted that the jazz don't run like crazy.... Especially considering the fact that our half court offense is a mess due to the opponent not needing to guard rudy at all and not having to worry about us killing them from three.

I definitely think we should try to get shots off quicker, especially in transition......
though the downside would be that if we increase the pace then we wouldn't get to pass rudy the ball at the three point line and watch him look for a guy to pass to and then not be able to find anyone so Hayward, hood, neto, etc have to come to rudy for the handoff and then swing the ball around the outside until the shot clock is down to 5 seconds and then actually look for a scoring opportunity.

Wait, is that actually a downside?

The slow pace plays into our defense and keeps Rudy fresh. It's something to build around, at least when Exum is rolling...

If the pace doesn't increase with a more confident Exum, and the return of Burks (both of whom are very fast, young players) then the offense is without question, not being maximized. We will see

But Burks shouldn't start over Hood, and Exum is a couple of years from running a competent up tempo game.

Mack can run it, but we don't have the shooters either, and Rudy only clogs the paint.

Because we are slower than average at every position besides when Burks plays.

Watching that actually isn't as bad as watching this team try to score in transition. The ways they find to botch fastbreaks are astonishing.

Hard truth is, we really don't have the personnel to play fast.
