I think the writing is more-or-less on the wall at this point, and I think we can start making statements that will summarize the entire season, even though it's just barely March.

I'll get the ball rolling:

*extraordinarily cautious and frugal year from the jazz FO
*injuries
*the jazz lack depth at wing and guard
*uncertain fit amongst core pieces
*lots seems to be riding on Exum
*somehow Portland is already better than us with their zero-year rebuild AND it's not easy to bet that we'll stay ahead of Minnesota.
*Hood and Hayward seemed to figure out some vital things. If our offense has any hope, let's hope we acquire the right pieces to put around them.
*Aside from injuries, Favors and Gobert spent a significant portion of the year not looking quite right. There are enough question marks around their fit; when they're gutting it out at approximately 80% health, it's not pretty.
*cakk bakking sucked.
 
btw, we may still make the playoffs. Trump may attend the series... he seems to like torture.
 
It's hard to justify a treadmill year when you've been selling hope for 3 or 4 years. It'll be fun to hear DL try.
 
I don't think it is realistic to expect Exum to reach level needed for this squad to become a deep playoffs contender. This is doubly so when we consider that soon enough, we'll have to pay Hayward, Favors, Gobert, and Hood a ton of money. So unless the management takes the risk of a major trade within the next couple of years, we have to accept that this rebuild has gotten us a playoffs team that occasionally reaches the second round. Nothing more, and possibly something less if we don't manage to retain the core players.

Unless Exum takes a huge leap or two, I see this team capping out as good as the grizzlies got. That's fun but not really great.

Ya, that's what I'm thinking too. And you know what, I'll take it. It's really hard to build a championship contender. For a small market team, you have to get REALLY lucky in the draft, and then build smartly around the drafted superstars. There is nothing wrong with watching a Grizz level team.
 
If that's true, then what will DL's greatest success be: building Grizzlies 2.0 aka the Grazz OR bringing back the Rocky Mountain Revue????

There's always a chance of a trade or free agent as well. The grizzlies were a talented wing player away from being pretty special.
 
Playing .500 basketball with the youngest starters in the league and no depth, that proved we have lots of young talent. We are putting a lot of hope in Exum but we also know we will continue to improve and be a decent team. We have a chance at being a contender if Exum or someone else can take a bigger jump than just the expected improvement. We are in a great place. We can add vets and compete for a 3-5 seed over the next couple years and hope to make the jump to title contender in 2-4 years with what we have or we can trade since we have a ton of assets in players and picks.

No one in their right mind thought we were going to compete this season. Most of us were hoping for a 7-8 seed in the playoffs when the season started and we are still very close to that despite having a season destroyed by injuries.

Floor for this team unless major injuries continue to hit are the Grizzlies, thats a great place to be.

I agree. I loved watching the d-will, boozer, memo, ak teams.
If we become that good again in the next few years I will be happy

Great question. That being said, weren't most of his injuries as a result of some really violent plays in a sense not like normal plays?

they were the best hottest team coming down the stretch than AK tweaked a calf and Boozer tweaked a stomach muscle and Memo tore his achilles ,wow that was a big hurt and what if......

Exum needs to lead the defense out on the floor for the Jazz to have their mojo,I know everyone gave Gobert the credit ,but now we see that Gobert is the anchor and rim protector. Exum disrupted the opposing PG's with his length and speed and the Jazz have not come close to being that defensive team they were when they went 19 and 10 ,even when they have Gobert,favors ,Hayward and Hood healthy

With that dominating defensive team they can play with anyone .

We need better bench players. Mack probably gets the backup point guard spot. Neto is probably a third guard. We need to have a rotation of 9-10 nba players. With burks and Exum back, we have like 7. Withey, neto and ingles should be 12th men.

If we are going to stick with the core 5 or so starter level players, we definitely need better depth.

A star.
Whether one of the guys you listed becomes a star, or we trade a few assets for one, or we get one in free agency or the draft.
We need a star
