What's new

I'm officially coming out (I was wrong about Trey Lyles)

Stifle Tower

Punch Bowl Re-Filler
Ok, I can no longer hide my true feelings. And I hope all of you will support me. I've tried to hold out for as long as I could, even vehemently opposing a choice that I was completely against.

But I was wrong. DEAD WRONG! And I have to apologize to Dennis, the Jazz scouts and coaches, and all of you who believed.

Lyles can ball! And actually learned to shoot, which was my HUGE concern when he was drafted. And with the outside shot a threat, his driving ability becomes an even bigger weapon. He reminds me of Gordan Giricek in that respect...except he doesn't travel after he fakes and then puts it on the floor

Trey looks like he'll be the stretch-4 the Jazz have been looking for. Sure, he has a long ways to go defensively, but at least QS isn't asking him to be a midget 5 anymore. I think that, in part, contributed to his slow start. And, the injury to Favors gave him significant playing time.

I'm looking forward to next season and his continuing development. With Booker likely gone, Lyles may get 25 mins/per.

Welcome to the dark side. I hated the pick - desperately wanted Myles Turner and hated that the Pacers took him one spot ahead of the Jazz. Realized a long time ago that I was wrong. Lyles is the better fit with both Gobert and Favors.

Trey "Flex" Lyles will be a stud stretch 4 for the Utah Jazz. He's exactly what they needed and I can't wait to see his continued development. I think Quin has handled his use this year to perfection. Lyles is doing almost everything that we were hoping he would when they picked him, and looks to have a lot of room for improvement. Can't wait to see what an offseason at P3 does for him.

Good on ya for finally coming out:) I drove the Lyles bus before the draft

I'll admit it. I was nervous after the start of the season, but he got better little by little. He made me look smart during the draft thread. Thanks Lyles. Can't wait for three years from now when I can bump the lyles draft thread to toot my own horn. Lol

I was clueless every draft but the recent hits by DL have given me good confidence in his drafting ability.

I've said it many times, but go see Lyles in person before you rip on him. He obviously knows what's going on. He'll figure it out on defense and be a great pick.

Next year I expect Gobert and Favs to stagger minutes at the 5, leaving plenty of minutes at the 4 for Trey.

I still wish we'd have been able to get Myles Turner instead but he's turning into a solid pick for sure. Early on he was a broke Carlos Boozer wannabe, now he's a skinny Carlos Boozer with actual range. I think he's progressing very well, I no longer cringe when he has the ball like I still do with Johnson.

I'm excited to see how he adds to his game and becomes a solid contributor to the Jazz. Future is looking bright for him and I can't say that I thought that would be the case early on in the season so kudos to him for working on his game.

I don't understand why Lyles being able to play is so shocking. Dude is 20 years old, was a McDonald's All American and was more highly touted than KAT going into college who went number one and was stuck with limited minutes on one of the greatest college basketball teams ever? He was a steal from the jump, had he played somewhere else in college he probably would've been a much higher pick.

Basically we are learning that snyder and DL know what they are doing and are good at their jobs.

I hated the lyles pick, hated the Mack trade and then hated on mack even after his first few good games.

Now if they would just get Burks back on the court so he will be ready for the playoffs!

The Jazz were right about Lyles. I'm way excited about him. Whether he was the right pick over Booker remains to be seen, though.

He was. You almost always take the big in that situation. If he keeps developing on this trajectory he will far and away be the better pick. Booker is doing what he is as the semi-1st option on a bottom 3 team.

Good player, good shooter, but not nearly as valuable as a legitimate stretch 4. That was the most desperate need the Jazz had. Utah filled it at #12 in what was widely regarded as an 11 player, weak draft. Lyles was the better pick and will likely be the better player.
