Look, I don't want to get into a whole capitalism thing here.

But he gets whatever money/benefits that the league deems him worthy of. The reason he can get paid and still rest is because any team would gladly give him a max contract even if he told them that in 30 of 82 games he's just gonna rest.

Sad thing is I could totally envision a scenario where we miss the playoffs because the Clippers and Spurs both rest their players against Dallas but not against us.

Most jobs do have these, they are called sick days. People use them when they aren't really sick, just like NBA players rest when they aren't necessarily injured.
