I don't know why they hyped this announcement. Why not let it be a side not like all the Sloan extensions were? Kinda strange.

Anyways the Jazz are certainly unorthodox.

Don't EVAR buy into the Jazz's hype regarding a huge announcement. Back a couple years ago they hyped Fisher being released out of his contract like crazy. I hoped to god at that point it was AK was getting traded or getting moved to Russia but it was none of then Fisher being let out of his contract

Then I hoped it was something like Malone getting hired as an assistant but it was Corbin's contract getting extended

The strategy is to announce that Corbin is the head coach FORE SURE.

It takes pressure off of Corbin when the media and the players know he is here for the long hall. He might be scrutinized if they don't know if he will be back here.

Jazz are playing the safe side with the media. That is all this is. A normal team would not extend him this quickly. The Jazz just don't like media attention or drama. So they play it safe.

They had their two heterodoxic moments -- burnt the thing to the ground -- and with the fire (sale) over with, it's now time to collect on the insurance policy.

Back to orthodoxy.

The Utah Jazz look more and more like a basketball version of a Potemkin village.

While I'm not really a fan of this (yet?), congratulations to Ty. Here's to hoping he's the right guy.

Jazz in a tough spot.
Corbin would have got a head coach job next year.
That leaves only Scott Layden to promote.
Jazz had to give a multi year to keep him.
